It is.
- George Floyd was experiencing cardiopulmonary and psychological distress minutes before he was placed on the ground, let alone had a knee to his neck.
- The Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) allows the use of neck restraint on suspects who actively resist arrest, and George Floyd actively resisted arrest on two occasions, including immediately prior to neck restraint being used.
- The officers were recorded on their body cams assessing George Floyd as suffering from “excited delirium syndrome” (ExDS), a condition which the MPD considers an extreme threat to both the officers and the suspect. A white paper used by the MPD acknowledges that ExDS suspects may die irrespective of force involved. The officers’ response to this situation was in line with MPD guidelines for ExDS.
- Restraining the suspect on his or her abdomen (prone restraint) is a common tactic in ExDS situations, and the white paper used by the MPD instructs the officers to control the suspect until paramedics arrive.
- Floyd’s autopsy revealed a potentially lethal concoction of drugs — not just a potentially lethal dose of fentanyl, but also methamphetamine. Together with his history of drug abuse and two serious heart conditions, Floyd’s condition was exceptionally and unusually fragile.
- Chauvin’s neck restraint is unlikely to have exerted a dangerous amount of force to Floyd’s neck. Floyd is shown on video able to lift his head and neck, and a robust study on double-knee restraints showed a median force exertion of approximately approximately 105lbs.
ExDS is one of the most critical factors. As a former pharmacist I think it is highly likely that Floyd flipped into a state of Excited Delium. Firstly he had recently injected a large dose fentany, a VERY potent morphine analogue. That is going to screw with your consciousness seriously just by itself. Now add to that a big hit of a potent injected stimulant like methamphetamine. Fentanyl is a narcotic like morphine and produced a qualitatively (profoundly) different kind of pleasure than that amphetamine does. Now add to this mixture Pot or (THC) which has mild hallucinogenic properties, and you've got a head full of psychoactive "rocket-Fuel" that is going fuck up your mind
BIGLY
What you've got in your head is a potent dog's breakfast of consciousness-altering drugs. So Floyd is walking around in "Cloud-Cuckoo land", pretty much," off with pixies" Earth, then he gets busted by the Police for tendering a $20 bill (one of a number he was carrying. Beacause there a crazy, cocktail or high doe mind-bending drugs in his head, he freaks out - panic, gets paranoid, become overexcited and irrational ,resisting instructions from police (and Floyd is a tall, robust-framed and muscular who is"twice" the size of Chauvin and the other police on the scence, and has twice then strenght) Was his behaviour consistent with ExDS ? Well it definitely ticked off a hell of a lot of boxes. And remember Derek Chauvin and his fellow police officers are not qualified psychiatrists or clinical psychologists; they would doubtless have been taught about the hallmark symptoms of ExDS in the traing/continuing education with the MPD, and all things considered they made a good call in "diagnosing", Floyd with ExDS. You can judge for yourself by watching the police video of the Floyd incident on 25 May 2020 (the footage that goes for about 40 mins) then study Floyds behaviours carefully and see how many you can tick off against the Official List of ExDS symptoms that are listed in the link I sent you. Psychiatric/psychological medicine in not an exact science. IWhenOfficer Lane judges Floyd as having ExDS, I think the call is good. That is, it's
good enough for most professional medicos who were placed in the same stressful, potentially- dangerous, circumstance to support Lane's conclusion.
This issue of ExDS will be crucial to the outcome of Chauvin's trial, and communicating the scientific details of the ExDS issue to a jury and demonstrating the relevant evidence that strongly suggests Floyd was afflicted with most of the official medical ExD symptoms to a jury might be tricky ?
