The left= defender of Human rights, fair wages, and ALL that is good. :rolleyes: Except of course when it comes to illegal aliens,....then its all about having them here to work for slave wages so they can buy cheap green beans! Do they ever even listen to themselves talk or look in the mirror? Or are they just so accustomed to lying about whatever serves their purpose at the time that they cant even see that they are the very definition of ironic?

Yep illegal migrant workers depress the wages of laborers. When I was young a carpenter could make a living and raise a family on what he earned. No illegal labor has depressed wages and made that impossible.

Yep they worked the harvest season then returned home. I have no problem with that as long as they are vetted and get temporary visas.

Interesting seeing the 3 or 4 big farmers I know in South FLA around MAR are all Republicans and have been for years.
And they are saying if they can't get these workers their crops will be rotting in the field,
They can't get reliable pickers and need them or there will be a shortage of a lot of vegetables come FEB, March

Vet the workers and issue J visas for the harvest season. They don't have to permanently live here to work the harvest season. That is how it worked for decades. We should not trade American citizenship for cheap strawberries.

But it will drive the cost up then you MAGA will start crying about inflation again.
 
When you look at the big picture, and consider the costs to other parts of society, by having the Illegals being used in not just farm laborers, but also in food processing and meat packing plants, and as roofers, road repair crews, and many other labor class jobs...

and also the street drug gangs, the organized shop lifting, the smash and grabs, and home invasions...

and also the costs to the schools, medical clinics, jails, and increase in needed police...

When you sum the costs, and fold it into the cost of the vegetables, the price with the illegals is far, far greater than the price would be without them.

It is NOT a cost savings, it is a very expensive way to get your Vegetables+Chaos!

Here is what I'll say. First off,...I believe that any man or woman who puts in a good days work should be paid a decent wage,...regardless of where they come from. You don't get to just abuse desperate people and take advantage of them just because they are not American citizens. Not IMO. Having said that,....the mega farms are simply going to have to raise the prices of their products so that they can pay Americans to do the work. That means decent pay and benefits. If that means I have to pay more for the product then so be it. At least it will be giving Americans half way decent jobs. In the end the money all gets recirculated back into the economy anyway.

I agree. And we put men on the moon in the 60's I think we can invent a way to pick strawberries mechanically.

There are plenty of young, strong Americans willing to do the work at a reasonable wage, if we get rid of the Illegal Option, it will happen.

As a mid-teenager, I picked fruit and vegies every harvest season. It was considered just part of your high school years to do it in the afternoons and weekends, part of the coming of age ritual, like TrickOrTreating or the Prom.

Some kids got school passes to spend two weeks out working, rather than attending class, signed off by the Principles. The teachers would supervise self-study and make up work for the missed class.

I learned far more as part of a work-team, doing the real-work, than I would have from the few days school I missed. I was and am proud of that phase of my life.

I'm not against the idea of Farm-Robots, I just don't think it is the only way to do things.

And we will save money on providing police and firemen and on educating their kids and keeping their criminals in prison. When illegals get legal status they will be taking electrician jobs.

When I grew up I had friends whose fathers were house framers. and they were able to support a family on what they made. Nowadays illegals have depressed the wages so American basically no longer work as framers. You will find Americans running framing crews but rarely as just a regular framer. The same thing goes for brick layers and painters. Americans have done these jobs for decades until they were run out of the market by cheap labor.

And the family run farm, orchard or ranch is gone now too, replaced by humongous Corp farms, were everything is not targeted at providing food, working class jobs, and community, but rather it is focused on 0.8% greater profits, so that the CEO and Board can get another Million each in Annual bonuses.

So, they use even more pesticide, pick the fruit silly green, don't allow the pickers to break to pee, so they piss in the fields and spread weird South American diseases.

In the minds of the Farm-Corp-CEO, the Illegal Pickers are just sub-human Machines.

When we put new hardwood floors in our home, the three workers were from Cuba, Mexico and Venezuela.

The ramrod (The Virginian) was an American.
 
Nobody will tell a farm-robot that it cannot charge its battery when it drops to low to keep on processing.

But Everyone tells the illegal worker that they cannot break to pee in a non-existent porta-potty. Because they have dehumanized the farm work, and the farm workers. They are not family and community, the are just tools. So they piss in the fields, spreading disease.

IMHO, The illegal farm workers are a form of slavery.

I would just like to know why the people who will pick our fruits and vegetables have to be illegals. No leftist has answered that. One tried by saying we don't have enough legal immigration to fill all those jobs so we have to let millions upon millions of illegals cross the border. They're idiots.
