Ask Mexico. According to several news articles posted ITT, their troops haven't been absent from the border, as trump makes it seem. To me it seems like the number of troops at the different borders ebbs and surges.

2021: According to White House press secretary Jen Psaki, Mexico will maintain a deployment of about 10,000 troops, while Guatemala has surged 1,500 police and military personnel to its southern border and Honduras deployed 7,000 police and military to its border “to disperse a large contingent of migrants” there. Guatemala will also set up 12 checkpoints along the migratory route through the country.

2024: Mexico has sent 600 troops to areas on the border with the U.S. following an uptick in violence, including an attack on a military installation and mass kidnappings.

The 1.3 billion dollar border bill was passed by the Canadian parliament last year, on Biden's watch.

Trudeau says in his tweet 10k Canadian troops are already on the border, and have been. They are not redeploying large numbers of soldiers to the border. They're already there.

Trump got spooked at the economic damage his trade war would cause the USA, and backtracked on his threats.

Bullshit, Trump was not going to back down. Canada did. The truth is, Canada should have been working to get this shit done all along. Why didn't they implement their supposed 1.3 billion dollar border bill? Can you answer that? Of course you can't. The DNC talking points memos don't go into that kind of detail.

OTTAWA, Dec 16 (Reuters) - Canada's government on Monday proposed C$1.3 billion ($913.05 million) for border security after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump threatened tariffs unless Canada reduced the movement of migrants and drugs into the United States.
The border funding proposal was part of the mini-budget, or fall economic statement unveiled on Monday. Trump has threatened 25% tariffs on all exports to the U.S. from Canada and Mexico.

The money would go towards Public Safety Canada, the Canada Border Services Agency, the Communications Security Establishment, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police," the statement said.

The statement said the government intended to introduce legislative amendments to the Customs Act to grant Canada Border Services new authorities to inspect goods destined for export.
U.S. border patrol apprehended more than 23,000 migrants near the Canada-U.S. border in the 12 months ending in October - more than double the previous year. That remains a fraction of the 1.5 million apprehended near the U.S.-Mexico border in that time period.
