Some steelmakers in Canada and Mexico are telling customers that they are refusing new orders to the US on concerns that President Donald Trump soon will reimpose duties.

Canada’s Stelco has been telling US-based consumers it is pausing sales quotes, according to a person familiar with the matter. Mexico-based steel suppliers also stopped taking orders for material this week as they await potential action from Trump, according to Flack Global Metals, a large buyer.

I retired about 20 years ago so I wasn't sure if the auto company I worked for still used steel from Stelco, I knew we use to, so I called a friend that still works there and he says we do , and I know Another one of the big has a plant in the area and they too used steel from Stelco so this will hurt the US auto industry and the US auto industry will have to lay people off.
And if it last long enough it could hurt a lot more people, it is a fact for every one auto worker working there are 6 to 8 other people employed
This could be a really big fuck up for Trump.
we will have to see, Feb first is only a week away.

One other thing if the Canadians can do this it wouldn't be too hard for them to shut down electric power to millions of Americans in the north , it would do great harm to our economy if they just shut it down for about 10 days ,
Nobody in several northern states in the mid west and states like NH, VR, Ma. would have power and would not be able to go to work, would lose a lot of food , NO T V , no computers shutting even more stuff down.
Trump doesn't want to mess too much with them they can do a lot of real damage to our economy

The Canadians are already in deep shit politically, economically, and culturally....I recommend care in making new enemies.

Oh noes. An imaginary friend at the "auto company" you claim to have "worked for", plus a few other anecdotal tales! That means we're all doomed, doomed, I tell you!
FUCK YOU ASSHOLE I worked in a auto plant for almost 40 years and still have friends that are still working in the plant,
The retirees have monthly meetings at our union hall and still see people that are still working, but you wouldn't know what that is like living on welfare all your life.

What do they think of the shit quality coming off the lines these days?

It takes time to build a new steelworks. We will just have to suspend production of things using steel as an input until we work it all out.
Or buy the steel elsewhere.

There is substantially more steel production capacity around the world than is needed.

I haven't been in our plant for some time now but I have been looking a several of the trucks we make body parts for and I think they are doing a good job.
You have to remember the quality part is controlled by the engineers and there is only so much the guy on the line has control of.
