Carter 39 Gaining A New Revered Reputation

Jimmy Carter followed an unelected president and preceded a B film actor, who, like another actor down the road, was Governor of California for a while.

He was a good, decent man, but a very mediocre executive. He was a devout Christian Fundamentalist who, quite uniquely, actually had New Testament values.

He tried to tell America that we would always have to drive at 55 mph and keep our homes too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer.
He took heat for going slow with Iran in order not to lose the hostages.

He was an OK, not great president, who would need Bush II and the orangutan to come along and show America what really horrible presidents actually looked like.

But being a good man counts for something, and he appears to have been that.

Hello cawacko,

If you're so sure you know why then why don't you tell us.

Obviously you think only someone who lives there can know anything about California.

It definitely possible for someone not living here to follow the state’s politics. But statements like “there are a lot of factors” is something I would say if I didn’t know.

There were two major drivers: demographics and Prop 187.

Right on. Thank you.

Glad we got that settled.

Any thoughts on Carter gaining perhaps more recognition for having really come through during a tough time certainly not in his own control?

Probably because you're uncomfortable admitting that Carter really did do a good job as president

dude, my mother loved President Carter....but even she could only say two good things about him........that he taught Sunday School and that he sold Iowa grain to the Russians......what are you listing as his "good jobs"?......

Apparently no opinion on Carter.

Well, when somebody just does a job well, that's not sensational news. Not very controversial.

He got swifboated by the right as they tried to turn Reagan into some kind of saint.

Particularly loopy was when Reagan died and the right tried to claim he was loved by all.

That was a lot of hooey.
