CBS/NYT poll has surprising results...

From what we've heard in the past month, Obama should be shooting up in the polls due to sudden and unswerving new support from women.

However, in the last month in the CBS/NYT poll Obama has dropped by 9 points suffering the drop not only for gas prices, but also for foreign policy, jobs and the economy.

i think that the voters are a bit crazy or schizophrenic and childish, but what else is new

I find question 15 the most interesting. More people in that poll favor Santorum than Romney. Dixie is right, if Newt got out, Romney would lose.

Romney might sway independents but he appeals less to republicans, Santorum has the radical right but is repugnant to everyone else.

IE everyone who doesn't think that the constitution should remove the 1st amendment in favor of Catholicism

Mitt's fighting for his life in some of these primaries - including states that he should be running away with.

I seriously doubt he'd beat Obama today. The WH has no fear of Mitt. The only thing they really fear right now is the rising price of gas.

If gas prices go up more Obama loses unless the economy is way better. The recent polls show 66% know Obama is restricting oil supply. There aren't enough of you smug mobile drivers to offset regular folk.

.

In a hypothetical general election matchup, Mitt Romney and President Obama are tied at 45% apiece.

That's with romney getting beat up on every single day while obama stays mostly out of the fray. The whitehouse is scared shitless of a romney run. That's why every liberal in america is praying for santorum to win, even though he wont.

Ask voters which presidential contender’s views are more like their own, and just 37% say President Obama. Most (53%) say they think more like one of the four Republican presidential hopefuls. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 16% of Likely U.S. Voters say when it comes to the important issues facing the nation, their views are more like former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney’s.

If Rasmussen has Romney tied with Obama, that means Romney is losing.

I don't know about scared shitless, but I think the Obama camp rightly believes that Santorum would be much easier to beat.

we'll see come november. i think when it comes down to it, given the current gop crop, obama will win.
I agree. I think the current crop has ran to far to the right and hurt themselves. I think you have to be careful also when looking at poll numbers in that you have to evaluate them not only on how they impact the popular vote but the electoral vote as well. Even if Obama's popularity in California or New York is currently declining does anyone seriously think Romney will win either of these States?

If the election were held today, Mitt would win... Santorum would lose...
I think you're wrong. I think Mitt would lose and Santorum would get crushed in a landslide. The poll you site shows a clear advantage for Obama over Romney by 3 pts. That's right at the margin of error. The RCP average favors Obama at 2.7 point advantage. Again, these numbers don't reflect on the electoral calculus where if you look at the swing States Obama is showing a small but clear advantage in 7 of the 10 swing states.

You're also failing to look at the polling numbers for women (you do seem to have a habit of discounting them). In the last few months Obama's general approval rating with women has jumped by 10%. Not only that but Obama has a clear cut lead over Romney, that is well outside the margin of error, with women voters 54% to 41% lead over Romney. Romney should be extremely worried by this!

I don't think the White House is scared shitless of a Romney campaign. I think they pretty much expect that. I think they also rescpect his as being a far more viable, capable and organized opponent then the other remaining candidates but hell....that's just common sense. The gas thing is over blown unless it triggers hyper inflation. Right now I see Romney doing slightly better than McCain in the electoral count but still losing. Romney pretty much has to make a clean sweep of the 10 swing states. Obama only has to pick up two or three.

Still....it's a long way off till the election. McCain probably would have done better than he did agaisnt Obama had not the banking bubble burst and had he not picked Palin as a running mate but he still probably would have lost due to Bush fatigue.

Remember we talked about collaborators and people voting against their own best interest.

I think it is one of the reasons he isn't leaving.
That's probably a good thing. I think the polls are pretty clear that if Gingrich or Santorum win the nomination then Obama wins by a landslide.

What should scare Democrats even if they were to win a second term for Obama is "Who's next". Does anyone here seriously think that Joe Biden could beat a charismatic Governor like Christie?
