Christmas is for Christians

iolo: "... business purposes."
Jack: My distant ancestors (the Quakers) seemed to view the 'National Church' (Church of England) in a similar vein, as a Business Operation. I think the Founder (George Fox) wrote something called "No Crown, No Cross".

I just googled it, I was wrong, ... it was William Penn.

"In this Christian classic, Penn exhorts believers to adhere to the spirit of Primitive Christianity[1] The book is divided into two parts, the first dealing with the importance of self-denial in the Christian life and the second gathering a series of references to men through the ages who have written of the importance of self-denial, including "heathen," professed Christians, and "retired, aged, and dying men, being their last and serious reflections, to which no ostentation or worldly interests could induce them." Penn's view of Christianity is intensely spiritual rather than formal, and in passing he defends several practices typical of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) including clothing which was not fashionable and speech which addressed royal and commoner alike in the second person singular "thee" and "thou." I was a Quaker attender for many years.

Interesting. I don't know much about them. I was thinking of making a Donation to the American Friends Service Committee just because I have a connection 250 years ago.

(you know, a hundred bucks could make up for all these years of non-attendence, right?)

I don't know much about the Friends in America, except that Nixon was one: it is not an encouraging thought. The point about being an Attender is that you are not committed to any particular belief, not that British Quakers are much anyway. The idea of just waiting in silence is excellent, and you sometimes get a 'Gathered Meeting' which is deeply impressive. Here they are very good people.

I've read about different types of 'Quakers'. Some are 'religious', while others are simply 'Spiritual'.

The rainy season is in April...

For Israeli Jews, a newfound love affair with Christmas ...

2 hours ago · Jewish Israelis have fallen in love with Christmas, and nowhere is this more evident than the northern Arab city where more than two millennia ago, according to Christian belief, a woman named Mary received news that she was bearing the son of God.

I have been to Palestine 3 times in April and it was always rainy so you're probably right.

Most 'Christians' are fake.

They don't love their fellow humans unconditionally; They hate.

Christmas is over, so now they can go back to hating for 364 more days. 'Peace on Earth' is only something they pretend to want for one day of the year.

FAKE!
