Citing deficit, Obama freezing federal worker pay

Again, based on reports from the same people who want you to believe that high inflation will never be a consequence of printing money to loan to ourselves. I'm good with what the reports say, and understand what they say. I'm also in full understanding that the exact same amount of food from the weekly grocery store trip now costs me $25 more than before. One can either have faith in reports from people who gain from your belief or one can understand that evidence directly before them may be contrary to what they are reporting.

When reality doesn't line up with conservative economic theory, reality is wrong.

No, my position is that prices have gone up, which is a sign of inflation. So far we have two personal reports of higher prices from people that I know and who are not likely to make up stories for their "benefit". It gives me pause and prods my inherent mistrust of government.

Two anecdotal reports on some internet messageboard that prices are going up to some arbitrary degree? That is much more reliable than a scientific examination of the general price level in the United States. Inflation has to be high right now to benefit some far right loons argument on an internet messagebaord, so it is, it's not like inflation is high because of price levels or anything.

Gasoline... up 9.5%
Gas (piped nat gas)... up 1.9%
Healthcare.... up 3.6%
Food... up 1.4%

Yes, let's ignore the general price level. General prices are not actual inflation. Let's arbitrarily invent an inflation basket on the spot consisteing of gas and healthcare, two measures that have been going up much faster than general price levels for a decade or so, and call that inflation. Let's then compare that figure we basically pulled out of our ass to old inflation levels in the past that consisted of general price levels, and use that to say that inflation is higher than it used to be. It's ever so convenient being a conservative.

Cherry-picking bullshit at it's fucking worst. They should have the death penalty for statistics this gad.

Yes, one can compare their experience with what they see reported and decide if trust in the report is merited.

I did tell you that you are welcome to your opinion of my "nuttiness," I really don't care other than I'd like to convince others to explore direct evidence over what is reported. In short, one shouldn't believe something solely because they have been told by the government that it is true. Trust, but verify. I believe that my stance is reasonable, even if you want to believe reports over experience.

I absolutely believe hard data over anecdotal reports from some loon on an internet messageboard.

Or his experience is on par with what the CPI report stated. The price of breakfast foods are up (dramatically in some cases). The price of meats are up 5.9%. yeah... I can see why that may be impacting the typical shopper. Because while fruit prices have dropped dramatically, they are still too high for many people on low to middle incomes to buy.
Shhh.. Watermark's on a role and thinks he's made a valid point about some "hard data" that he failed to read. Don't input actual information, he'll cry. Nigel can take it, but Watermark really badly wants me to be wrong.

That is not what I did emo.... I was pointing out WHY both Damo and Nigel were both correct. The CPI (as Nigel stated) has been benign overall. We have not seen a general increase in inflation.

That said, Damo's point on the food should also be taken for what it is (along with energy). The average person FEELS like inflation is sapping them because items like meat, breakfast foods, gasoline HAVE gone up dramatically which diminishes the buying power of the average worker.
