Colorado Lawmaker Switches Parties

By STEVEN K. PAULSON
Associated Press Writer

DENVER (AP) -- A state representative abruptly left the Republican Party and became a Democrat, the first time in 20 years that a Colorado lawmaker has switched parties.

Rep. Debbie Stafford, 55, who also is a minister, said the Republican Party no longer represents her values.

Debbie Stafford is my State Rep. She's term-limited.

I can't see how she would fit in the D party, her ONLY platform is anti-gay.

I guess she sees things differently from your view Damo.
I've seen her myriad times. Seriously, her only platform is, and has always been, anti-gay. She was one of the few that always was at the R Party functions in our county...

I've never liked her. It always annoyed me how much she spoke only against gay people.

Of course she chose to do it when she was term-limited and after the Congress was closed. I don't see what she is trying to do here. Her seat will go to an R, she can't run. She may try to run against Brody for the Senator spot, but he is a lock and not so one-dimensional.

I have no clue why she did it Damo, and apparently neither do you.
I just like the fact that she did it.

Sorry just had to point out this is not true. Ben Nighthorse-Campbell switched to being a Repub in the 90's.

I have to say this is unusual, usually as people get more older and wiser they become more Conservative and more likely to switch to being a Repub.

No. I'd know with Tom if he did it. I could ask him. I'll likely never see this woman again as the only places I ever saw her was while she was campaigning and at republican events in our county.

She voted for the SuperSlab and nearly lost her seat to a R challenger in the Primaries before she raced around promising never to do that again....

She is an odd duck. She's half-bald, with nearly pink died hair that is supposed to be red. I've always thought she was a bit "fake" maybe all her hate the gays crap was cover and she's coming out now.

And she bailed and went..........

to the Democratic party...are they more anti-gay?..This is hillarious!

It's honestly nearly incomprehensible to me. She never gave even the slightest indication in any of her actions or words that she was anything except religious right.

Nope, I am a registered Republican.
Principle over party.
The thing of it is, nothing she ever said that she thought was important follows the D Party platform. She is either the most fake person in politics that I have ever seen, or she was. Either way, I can't see the Ds welcoming a gay-hater other than Party over Principle.

Because it's because the main agenda of the republican party is selling the american people down the toilet.
Just like the democrat party.

I'm certainly not upset to lose another RR. I am just laughing that she is now going to pretend that the D Party is where she "fits". I hope all the RR goes over to the D Party...

:D

That's right, a registered Republican who's never voted Republican in his life.

What principle did she show that you liked? (the anwer of course being you are a Democrat and are happy a Republican became Democrat).

Party swapping is just something politicians do to enhance their own careers.
Period.
(not to be confused with wife swapping:) )
