First we were told that we should approve the lotto because that money would be used to fix our public education system and improve our roads.

Then we were told that we should vote to raise sales taxes because we needed that money for education and to fix our roads.

And then they raised the tax on gasoline and the fees on vehicle registration to improve our roads.

Then we legalized marijuana for obvious reasons and we were told that the revenue raised by taxing marijuana sales would be used to improve our public education system.

And now, after all that our public education system is one of the worst in the world and our students consistently score in the bottom half in math and science, they tell us that our roads and bridges are crumbling and our dams and other public projects are in danger of failing, they tell us we need 3.5 trillion dollars, $3,500,000,000,000 to fix our infrastructure.

My only question is, what happened to all that other money??? Wake Up America It's time to stop being sheep.

Low math ability which leads to low math and science scores is due to a lack of effort, focus and discipline. That’s why this country will never be at the top in that area and why Asian countries consistently will be.

Edit: I forgot to add that you can blame that on Democrats and Republicans alike.

When I was in school, we couldn't use a calculator in math class. Every problem had to be solved on paper. The night classes I took at a community college to learn geometric dimensioning/tolerancing and trig did allow us to use a calculator, but still taught us how to do it on paper. Do they still do that? Or do kids use their cell phone calculators (while flipping back and forth on facebook)?

My students aren’t allowed to use their cell phones period. They either put them in my case on the wall or keep them put up. If I see them after clas starts they are mine for the rest of the day.

Calculators have been allowed in the classroom at all high school levels since the late 80’s in Oklahoma. It has filtered down to the 5th or 6th grade now.

Lol! Yeah, I guess I'm a bit behind the times. I did a lot of scribbling when I was in front of a manual lathe. I used a calculator too, though. I just wonder what will happen when the really need to scribble.

Also the Fundy churches are to be blamed too. So many factors. Like you said, we don't see that shit in Japan.

Every time a progressive proposal is adopted, the execution is fucked by the compromises made to pass the proposal.
