Communism is the future

Encumbered by failure, the communists trudge on... living in the past, reliving the failures over and over... Love me some fighting over rats in Venezuela, for instance...

I expect if it isn't mentioned in the gospels there's no real reason to pretend your claim is true.......
There is no reason to pretend anything and no reason to be impolite either. There is good reason to read the story of the baptism of Jesus as recorded in the synoptic Gospels. What stands out from a parallel reading is the common fact that Jesus attended one of John's baptism ceremonies and was baptized by John.

This event has high credibility for a number of reasons, one of which is that later followers would have no reason to invent a ceremony which would seem to make Jesus a disciple of John rather than the other way around. The very different accounts of who said what after the baptism seem attempts to ensure the picture of Jesus as spiritual superior to his older, famous cousin, John.

Jesus began his public ministry following his baptism by John. When John was imprisoned, his followers brought updates on the case to Jesus. Jesus began his career within the Baptist movement and took over as its leader. Your literalist idea that "if it isn't mentioned in the gospels there's no real reason to pretend your claim is true" won't work as a criterion because the Gospels are fragmentary, inconsistent and often contradictory. Understanding the origin and nature of the fundamental Christian documents makes the task of figuring out what they "mention" much more difficult than faith-based ideas of inerrancy can accommodate. You are free to believe whatever you think right, of course, but determining what probably happened in the world described many years later by writers who never saw Jesus, didn't speak his language and never visited the places in which he lived is not a matter for faith to resolve.

We can tell early socialism was an extremely popular movement by the many myths that gathered round Jesus' early years, evidence of popular (and ignorant) veneration by the Palestinian masses.

true......and there is significance in the fact that God, in his incarnate form, was himself baptized......but obviously, John was a follower of God, God was not a follower of John.....

his followers brought updates on the case to Jesus

actually, John sent HIS followers to Jesus...
Luke 7
18 The disciples of John reported to him about all these things. 19 Summoning [m]two of his disciples, John sent them to the Lord, saying, “Are You the [n]Expected One, or do we look for someone else?” 20 When the men came to Him, they said, “John the Baptist has sent us to You, to ask, ‘Are You the [o]Expected One, or do we look for someone else?’” 21 At that [p]very time He cured many people of diseases and afflictions and evil spirits; and He gave sight to many who were blind. 22 And He answered and said to them, “Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have the gospel preached to them. 23 Blessed is he [q]who does not take offense at Me.”

by the way, if you think my post was impolite you haven't spent much time reading posts here.....
