Computer Question

My computer seems to work fine but a week ago I couldn't pull up google anymore. I'd get the same response on my screen as if I was trying to get onto the internet while unconnected. I have no idea why this is. I can open yahoo but it won't let me do a seach. Same for msn.com and using bing. It won't let me do it.

Anyone have any idea what I may have done that caused this? Thanks for any help.

It looks the Chinese are targetting you. More seriously have you tried other Google gateways such as google.co.uk?

Do you have a static IP?

what browser are you using? have you cleared cache lately?

its unlikely you have a static ip, it costs extra (if you have cable internet)

Please pardon my ignorance but I believe so.

You usually have to pay extra to an ISP to get a static IP address, the default is to get a dynamic address from a DHCP server. The internet is running out of IPv4 addresses fast, IPv6 will allow a maximum of 3.4×10^38 addresses.

My bad. I definitely do not have it then. I live in a condo building so I guess I steal or "borrow" my connection from a neighbor who pays.

Ahem... do you speak any other foreign languages?

Mr. Groan does not tolerate insubordinate computers. When my computers are insubordinate to my will, I simply throw out the monitor. And everything is fine!

you could...if they do not have secured wireless networks. mine is secure. if the network is open, i don't know if its stealing. i have a friend who leaves his unsecured for those who can't afford it. *shrug*

btw...what browser and did you clear you cache?

Sounds viral.

Restart in safe mode (hit f8 during the start-up) then go to safety.live.com and do a complete system scan. It takes a bit of time but will clean out all that porn shit you've been looking at.
