Who cares? I asked if it would be "like" that. You're being ridiculous.

He is a teenager. They KNOW EVERYTHING... we must all keep that in mind when communicating with him. Water is at the peak of his knowledge. He has yet to decline to the level we are all on where we know we don't know everything. He still knows it all and thus we must bow down to his infinite wisdom.

I hope my niece and nephew aren't going to get like that. They're so cute now.

Unfortunately it is highly likely they will. One of my nieces turned 16 yesterday.... she knows everything... and the courts agree with her. My other niece turns 13 soon... as of yet, she is still willing to admit she is wrong at times.

Sharing isn't always "peer-to-peer". You are being deliberately misleading.

There are websites dedicated to sharing files. Pretending that they don't exist because they aren't doing it "peer-to-peer" is pretense only.

I specifically said peer-to-peer sharing, Damo.

It's not that I know everything, it's that 90% of older adults are completely computer illiterate.

Computers aren't SUPPOSED to be user friendly. Whenever someone loads up a computer, they shouldn't get a "Hello, have a nice day" and nice friendly GUI, they should have to compile and install the operating system from scratch, and operate everything from a command line interface. If they can't do this the computer should blow up and kill them.

Just my opinion.

You better hope that trend holds.

How do you think geeks get laid?

and DARLA specifically asked for an example of FILE SHARING. SHE did not specify peer-to-peer. Her example was indeed FILE SHARING. Try to comprehend what is written. You will find life goes a lot smoother for you that way.

Guess why I didn't ask?

I don't know what peer-to-peer is, and I don't care what it is. That's what geeks are for!

Per WM I am in the 10% of older americans. And apparently virtually do not exist as I do not illegally download music.

By old people who want computer advice?

Naw, mostly we just give it out for free. Which deflates the price somewhat below that of where sexual intercourse can be used as a proper bargaining tool. The amount of times a person gets laid is inversely proportional to the amount of goodwill they have in their heart. :crybaby:

Bring on the melodrama and cynicism!

But you are absolutely correct, I asked for an example of file-sharing. Believe me, I would have pm'd the question if only I had know what the result was going to be. :)

You said that sharing is not done on websites. I quoted it and said you were wrong. You later attempted to make it about peer-to-peer sharing only, but you are simply wrong on this.

Trust me on this one Water.

And just hope.

So, using that line of logic.... everyone should have to build everything they use from scratch before being allowed to use it????

Did you build your car from scratch? Your home? I doubt it. Somehow I would guess that the only experience you have in "building" something is blowing up your "girlfriend".

Does that make you happy?

Peer to peer is pretty much where you go straight to the other persons computer to get the music or whatever files.
Both must have compatible software for this to work. and I suspect it leaves lots of security holes for those doing this practice.
I am not really a geek, just a techno dweeb.
