Congratu-fucking-lations, RIAA

No, it doesn't.

doesnt leave security holes ? Or does not work computer to computer ?

I could be wrong, as I said I am not a geek, but that is the way I understand it to work. the only computer to computer stuff I have done are FTP operations.
I normally work in a termial mode to computer or in a client server operation.

Then again, we have Grind, who couldn't get laid for his life and literally doesn't have anything but a gaping, bleeding hole in his chest that magically filters his blood and allows him to continue life.

Deep down, though, I think that Grind is a softy. :)

Probably sleeps with a stuffed elephant, that he calls "his Republican".

Grind is an anomoly for sure....
He will either change as he gets older or someone will probably kill him ;)

I mean, you can't really hack onto another persons computer through the program. Some people accidentally put their entire hard drive up for sharing, and there's some bogus material out there (which is easily identified if you know what you're looking for), but I've never heard of anyone directly hacking into someone computer through P2P software.

I would use ITunes, but I don't have a credit card, and it's easier to move a mountain than to convince my dad that I should use his and pay him back. :dunno:

LadyT, also you can get software that will not only find proxy servers for you, it will also spoof your MAC address so that the identifier of the computer you are using is mucked up. It would make it very difficult to 'find' you, but none of them are perfect.

Tell me where to get it, Damo. Or at least a keyword to search for.

Yeah, I've been trying to come up with an appropriate set of google keywords to find it but I can't think of any.

And while I'm at it I'm going to encrypt some files on my computer and "forget" the password.

be carefull ... they can still get you info... just because you spoofed your MAC on your pc... they will still be bable to get back to your ISP, and if they want they could get all the info they need from your ISP.

Your ISP is jst as liable as you are

seriously... if i were to go share files i would do it on a network that has no ties to me what so ever...

and if you plan on using a proxy... make sure it is in a country that will tell the riaa and the US to piss off

What countries would those be, bob? I've just come to the stunning realization that my civil liability is possibly within the millions of dollars.

This thread is way too funny!

Bob is correct...the govt can track back to any IsP...wether proxy or not...just takes a little time and effort...as for the rest, some in this thread attack the Bush admin for lieing and cheating and stealing...then I see the same people asking for a way to cheat the system...how ironic is this?

downloading is flat out stealing and she's lucky she's not going to jail.

Absolutely.

Nothing you do on the net is private.

If you must indulge in such stuff find an open Wifi connection and use that :)
Of course using a Wifi connection without permission is illegal as well....
But I think permission is implied in businesses that advertise open Wifi connections.

Most hospitals have them, and many McDonalds do as well.

A couple of hundred thousand dollar fine?

Yeah. Much better than 30 days in jail time, which would be the punishment for ACTUALLY stealing something of comparable value. And this isn't even stealing something real, this is "stealing" something that only has value because the government has attributed value to it.

the one thing that makes me stay away from all the sharing is all the crap that goes along with it... virus's mainly... id be willing to bet that most of the music files being shared are from the RIAA or someone who works for em... no the music wont work but it may do somthing else....

The reason she's not going to jail is because, with this amount of evidence, you'd get laughed out of a REAL court. This is a civil suit, dumbass.
