Coronavirus gone in 3 weeks.

I put this here because fighting the coronavirus is a political issue. I hear they will soon be coming out with a coronavirus vaccine. But it has many problems. On the other hand, we could be completely free from the coronavirus in just 3 weeks. In a relatively painless way. Compare to that to 9+ months we have been dealing with this problem. And the way things are looking, vaccine or not, we will be facing another lock down. Here is my plan.

Hopefully there is going to be another round of $1200 dollar stimulus checks. (Though after so many months have passed since the last one, it should be more) People should be told to use this money to buy everything they might need with the money to last them for 3 weeks. (And not give the money to whoever they may owe money to) To avoid any shortages, give then 4 to 6 weeks to do it in. Then do one last lock down. A REAL lock down this time. Shut just about everything down. Except for highly necessary things like hospitals, water, electric and sewage plants. It might also be necessary to keep a few stores open. So people can buy emergency things or things not planned for. But just about everything else would close down. Also, stop any traffic between cities. Except for people working at the necessary places.

Also, to make this economically doable, any rent or mortgage payments should be suspended for 3 weeks. Neither would people have to pay for utility or cable bills for this period. In short, it would be 3 short weeks of socialism. Then we can get back to normal capitalism. Which because of the coronavirus hasn't been doing too well anyway. Then after these 3 weeks, people won't even have to look at another mask again. There will be no need for a coronavirus vaccine. There wouldn't be any need for a flu vaccine either. Teachers and children could safely go back to school. And bars or restaurants could pack in as many people as they could hold. Though to make all this work, we need to get other nations on board with it. Otherwise, in the long run, it won't do much good.

Lockdowns don't work for the simple reason that people aren't robots. People break the rules, and when they do, it undermines any strategy you think you're going to implement.

COVID will likely go away by the end of February, however, because, as you said, it's a political issue. Not long after Biden is in office, the media's coverage of COVID will be very different from how it was under Trump. Any hiccups in dealing with COVID will not be blamed on Biden but on local officials. Eventually, it will be downplayed as a threat overall, because we will need to get the economy going again, and it needs to look like Biden was the needed change to the government that fixed things.

I left out the major point to my plan. Stating it plainly, preparedness. To my knowledge, preparing for any lock down has never been done. Things just get bad enough and the government drops a lock down into their laps. Preparedness is what I was getting at when I said to give people 4 to 6 weeks to prepare for a lock down. When people know when it will happen, know what to expect from it and most importantly the outcome after just 3 short weeks, only a compete imbecile would fail to comply. You know the type of imbecile-idiot I speak of. The kind who thinks the coronavirus doesn't exist. Only politics. Over 230,000 people didn't die from a political infection. They died from a coronavirus infection.

We need to keep pushing to get back to life, for herd immunity, until/unless the hospitals cant cope.

We are building fast now, probably a half a million people a day now are building immunity.

And the hospitals are doing fine.

There is only one direction:

FORWARDS

I don't think it would work.

As I told somebody else, preparedness is the key. From what I have ever heard, preparedness is something that has never been done. Things just get bad enough and the government drops a lockdown or shutdown into their laps. Also, considering the alternative, I think it's worth a try.

An interesting hallucination you have there. Also, just how long have you been a homicidal maniac. Is over 243,000 people dead from the coronavirus not enough for you? Also, from everything I have been seeing on the news, hospitals aren't doing well. Some even worse. And they're having to ship in freezer trucks to many places just to hold the dead.

Its an argument asshole.

When you consider that one of the most authoritarian governments and conformist societies in the world (China) didn't successfully lock things down, I seriously doubt any free country (I say that loosely) can manage it. China certainly tried to make it look like the lockdown worked for them, but the only way they could accomplish that was through widespread censorship and eventually kicking out foreign journalists.

We've seen South Korea and Japan do well, for the most part, but neither of them stayed in lockdown for very long. As far as I understand it, Japan didn't really have a lockdown at all.

That is what China did, and they are doing well. Their only danger is people traveling in from outside.

And therein lies one of the big problems. We cannot get the whole world onboard, because there are some scary places on earth. There are places controlled by Boko Haram, and there are places controlled by the Taliban. These are people who really do not care if the world has a pandemic.

What a lockdown buys us is time. A lockdown could buy us time to develop testing, and contact tracing. Or it could buy us time to develop a vaccine. Or it could buy us time for the rest of the world to form herd immunity and the virus to die out. Or it could spread things out to flatten the curve. Or it could just lesson the outbreak... But there will be a next outbreak... And hopefully we will take better control of that.

It is a very good idea, but it is not a magic bullet. We need a plan for what we are doing this for, because it will not wipe out the virus. A total lockdown would be a one two punch with something else being the two.

China is a police/surveillance state, one which is not only willing to ruin anyone who defies the state but their families too....we dont do that....we cant do what they do.

You might be right. It would be far more difficult for us.

Lets say there is an extreme deadly influenza that kills half of those who get it, and spreads very quickly. Do you think we are stuck with 170 million dead, or do you think we could shut things down?

Um No....the correct response here is "Hawkeye, I do believe that you are correct".

No, Hawkeye, I think it would be far more difficult for the USA, but I think we could shut things down.

We cant....the Intelligentsia have too far pissed away their reputation for knowing what they are doing and then being willing to do it.

Performance always did matter.

There is definitely a counter-expertise movement afoot. A good leader should be able to settle the people to confront a severe pandemic. trump is a rabble rouser who emboldens the worst elements of our society, which will make any battle nearly impossible. Hopefully, we can move past him before America collapses.

Sooner or later, America will confront a problem we have to sacrifice for. Covid-19 is such a relatively minor such problem, but there will be bigger ones. When trump destroys the response to even such a relatively minor problem, we know he had no hope for the big ones that will come sooner or later.
