Crazy Militia Whackjobs

Is it possible for an event that has never and will never happen, and is nothing more than the brain child of far-right lunatic conspiracy theorists with no grasp on reality, to be a current "event"? ;)
Domestic terrorism is an increasing possibility for three reasons:
1. Trump supports Alt-Right militia groups as proved by his pardoning ~1500 of them.
2. Trump's dismantling of the DOJ and FBI favors such groups and weakens law enforcement's ability to track them.
3. The Trump administration pushes conspiracy theories and Alt-Right hatred of anything Trump deems as Leftist.

A meteorologist friend posted about this yesterday. Insane, just insane.

A militarized conspiracy theorist group believes radars are ‘weather weapons’ and is trying to destroy them

National Weather Service offices around the country are on guard after recent threats to agency infrastructure — specifically Doppler weather radars — from a violent militia-style group, emails from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s security office show.

The group Veterans on Patrol, which the Southern Poverty Law Center defines as an anti-government militia organization, views the NWS’ network of Doppler radars as “weather weapons,” according to an internal NOAA email sent Monday and seen by CNN.

A previous email informing the NWS workforce of general, non-specific threats was sent May 1. Monday’s email was more action-oriented, with the NOAA security office noting they are aware of “several encounters,” physically or virtually, with Veterans on Patrol.

“This group is advocating for anyone and everyone to join them in conducting penetration drills on NEXRAD sites to identify weaknesses which can be used to ultimately destroy the sites,” the email stated, using an acronym for the weather radar network.
Stop shaming him, you must believe that all ideas are of the same value, just as we are told that all cultures are of the same value!

That's why I posted to the mods about it. The fact that it's being reported on and taken seriously by NOAA is definitely current, but it also doesn't quite fit either.

Weren't there similar threats a few years ago only that time the nut cases were targeting electrical substations?

Anti-government group threatens crucial weather radars, NOAA warns

Veterans on Patrol, which spread conspiracy theories in the wake of Hurricane Helene, has encouraged followers to visit sites hosting weather equipment.

An anti-government group is making threats against weather equipment that it says is a “weather weapon” controlled by the military, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration warned employees.

In emails widely shared with National Weather Service staff this month and obtained by The Washington Post, the NOAA Office of Security warned of threats it said are being coordinated by Veterans on Patrol, an extremist group motivated by anti-government beliefs and conspiracy theories...

...Experts who track domestic extremism say the group has not taken overtly violent action before, but they say its rhetoric comes amid a rise in domestic extremism fueled by conspiracy theories about the government’s legitimacy. Veterans on Patrol often mobilizes in communities hit by disasters, as it did in North Carolina after Hurricane Helene, and criticizes the government response.

Tornadoes home in on trailer parks anyway. No radar will prevent that!

There is no such thing as Alt-Right, Sybil. There are no militia groups pardoned by Trump.

He isn't dismantling them.

Random words. No apparent coherency. TDS.

Radar is not used to track hurricanes, Tball.
Tornadoes are tracked using a combination of methods, primarily relying on radar technology, with support from visual observations and mathematical models. Doppler radar, which detects the movement and rotation of air, is used to identify potential tornado-producing features within storms. Tornadoes are also tracked through visual observations by trained spotters and law enforcement, who can report their location and characteristics. Additionally, mathematical models use atmospheric data to predict storm development and the potential for tornadoes.
Here's a more detailed look at how tornadoes are tracked:

Radar Tracking:

Doppler radar:
This type of radar is crucial for detecting the rotating updrafts (mesocyclones) within storms, which can be a precursor to tornadoes. Doppler radar can also detect a "hook echo" or "tornado vortex signature (TVS)", a specific radar pattern associated with a developing tornado.

Dual-polarization radar:
This technology can detect debris from a tornado, even in rain or at night, helping to pinpoint its location.

Phased array radar:
Research phased array radars can scan the entire sky for severe weather faster than current radars, potentially providing quicker warnings, according to the NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory.

Oh, I'm not questioning the existence of domestic terrorists. I'm questioning their nonsensical beliefs about weather radar as being the "non-event" labeled as an event.

I'm basically mocking the idiocy of the far right.

They are, indeed, idiots and should be mocked. However, the threat is credible and, for the aforementioned reasons, domestic terrorism is increasingly likely.
