Police in Queens are investigating the grisly murders of a mother and daughter in East Elmhurst.

Officers were called to a home on 87th Street just after midnight Wednesday.

There, they found 56-year-old Estrella Castaneda and her 25-year-old daughter Lina Castaneda dead in their bedrooms.

Authorities say both had serious head injuries, which appeared to have been inflicted with a hammer.

A man was taken into custody at the scene who is the mother's boyfriend.

Carlos Amarillo, 44, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

Detectives say he waited patiently at the crime scene after calling 911 himself, claiming the women had cast a spell on him.

"Two females are dead," he told the operator. "They were assassinated. Hurry, they are dead. I killed them because they are witches. I want the police to kill me. I killed them with a hammer."

A caretaker has been arrested for allegedly using a stun gun on three young children as a form of punishment called "the electric chair."


The children, ages 7, 8, and 9, allegedly told investigators that Letina Smith would hold them in time out for an hour and if they moved, they'd be zapped.

A woman and her boyfriend being sought in connection with the sexual assault and beating death of her 3-year-old daughter were detained Sunday.


The girl, whose name wasn't released, appeared to have suffered blunt force trauma. There is also preliminary evidence of a sexual assault. She would have turned 4 in May.

A woman reportedly thwarted the carjacking of her vehicle after she trapped an alleged carjacker inside by closing her garage door.

Andre Bacon, 21, was charged with felony attempted vehicle hijacking and theft in connection to the failed carjacking.

Prosecutors alleged that Bacon entered the victim’s garage and demanded that she hand over her keys.

The victim reportedly surrendered the keys and fled the garage, closing the door behind her and calling police.

Police arrived and opened the garage door and found Bacon sitting the driver’s seat.

Without much explanation, prosecutor Dan Fehderau said in a court hearing this week that he would no longer seek a murder trial against Duc Tong, 18. But he was charging Tong's twin, Anh Tong, with the killing of San Jose State University student Richard Phan, 22, during a birthday party on Jan. 26.

A sick Detroit con dubbed the "Blowtorch Rapist" is behind bars after his latest alleged victim escaped his grasp by stabbing him in the eye with a screwdriver.

Roderick Neeley, 23, is being held without bond after the random attack at gunpoint.

Neeley stuffed the 43-year-old woman into a car and drove off, cops say. When he pulled over, the perp beat the woman, tore off her clothing and blowtorched her feet, the Detroit Free Press reported.

But the woman stabbed Neeley in the left eye with a screwdriver and fled.

The very next day, cops nabbed a man — with an injured eye — during a Detroit home invasion, the newspaper reported.

Neeley is charged with several crimes including torture, assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct, assault with intent to do great bodily harm and assault with intent to maim.

Neeley could be connected to similar incidents from July, authorities say. Two women were found severely beaten in a vacant field that month. One had been raped and set on fire.

Two thieves who preyed on victims around a park were busted after they uploaded a selfie on a stolen phone.

Tyquan Solomon, 19, and Terrance Sistrunk, 16, were responsible for six robberies in and around Fort Greene Park starting on Jan. 22nd.

The pair were caught after they robbed a 22-year-old man, cops said. One of the thieves held a gun to his head while the other went through his pockets and took his iPhone and $205.

The victim checked his iCloud later in the day and found that the bumbling pair had uploaded a selfie, cops said.

Cops arrested both crooks and charged them each with several counts of robbery.
