Crowds flock to reopened Jacksonville beaches as Florida hits record coronavirus case

Nonsense. You missed the mark completely. First, 'the majority' of the workforce is not out of work. That's garbage. Second, my point is that people aren't going to return as customers to those businesses because there is no need for them to do so. Fortunately for me, I don't care what grade you give me. Maybe rather than grading my paper you could actually respond with something intelligent. How would that be?
Ok only 43% out of work/lost wages. https://thehill.com/homenews/state-...ns-have-lost-jobs-or-wages-due-to-coronavirus .why do you even care about the percentage?
you don't find this to be an "enormous burden"

Second, my point is that people aren't going to return as customers to those businesses because there is no need for them to do so.
WTF does that even mean? do people "need " to go to a restaurant?? - no they can get take out or go to a grocery store -but what about waiters and waitresses? do the "need customers" -you damn well right they do.
You're such an elitist socialist snob that crows "I got mine" you don't even get this.

yes we NEED business customers - consumerism drives the US economy!

Don't care what I think - i don't blame you. I have utter contempt for snobs like yourself who don't understand suffering and the angst of not being able to pay ones bills. we NEED OPEN BUSINESS

Correct about majority. Only half of US workers won't have a paycheck in May sooooo....not a majority. You win!

https://www.businessinsider.com/lay...alf-american-workers-paycheck-wage-may-2020-4
  • Recent job losses due to the coronavirus pandemic could mean that fewer than half of working-age Americans will be earning a wage in May, James Knightley, chief international economist at ING, wrote in a Thursday note.
  • Job losses have already contributed to slumps in consumer spending, seen in retail and housing sales reports. Given that consumption makes up roughly 70% of US gross domestic product, the effects on the economy will be severe.
  • In an election year, the widespread unemployment will likely mean that the call for politicians to reopen the economy will grow, irrespective of health advice, according to Knightley.
  • But reopening too soon lessens the chance that the US will see a swift recovery, he added.
good research. A+

Disagreed. There isn't even a cure or vaccine available and won't be for 6-8 months. Even if we had it today, it could take 3-6 months for it to become available to the public. Businesses are going under after just a month of this.

Even if everything works out as planned, there could be another novel virus pandemic next year, a mutation of COVID-19 or any other issue deemed "a health hazard" thus allowing the Feds to shut down "selective" areas....and for what? Yes, semi-permanent poverty in order to save lives and give the largest government we have even more power.

I hope you're right. I don't think so though. Numbers are pretty clear. The vast majority of Americans are concerned we will open up things too soon, and those Americans aren't going to be going anywhere to spend money. Restaurants aren't going to survive with half the income. Here is what the IMHE model has to say about Florida, for example:

"After June 14, 2020, relaxing social distancing may be possible with containment strategies that include testing, contact tracing, isolation, and limiting gathering size."

https://covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america/florida

That makes more sense to me. If you open too early, you will be shut down, maybe until the end of the year, and no one wants that.

Have it your way. Doesn't matter, as the point stands. People have the right to do stupid crap to themselves, but when it affects others, those others have the right to shut it down. Just so there is no confusion. Maybe you should try to address that point instead of trying to parse the statement.

No you don't have the right to be a dictator because you're scared.

If you don't like the way I format my responses don't read them.

Out of work and lost wages are two different things. I'm at 75% right now. So suggesting that the majority, or even 43% are 'out of work' is simply false. I have to laugh at the Trumpettes who are whining and crying about being unable to pay the bills. The irony is absolutely delicious. Didn't take long for all of you to become socialists, did it?

No, I don't need to go to a restaurant, but when going doesn't involve potentially catching a deadly virus, I'm much more inclined to hop in the car.

Incorrect. The article states that 28% (just barely half of what was claimed) aren't collecting a paycheck. Lots of people, including me, have had their salaries reduced.

LOL at you. Not being able to go to the beach is 'dictatorial'? You should try North Korea. I'm guessing you'll be singing a different tune.

"Ok only 43% out of work/lost wages." That is what he wrote. Slow down and learn to read.

Understood about opening too soon. Like any other graph, income and debt can be graphed. Most people can take some debt, but most people have a limit on how long they can tread water.

The expected limp wristed response. All you had to do was say you were wrong. I am sure you are used to that.

Once again, take your own advice, Popeye. I was exactly right. When I'm wrong, I'll admit it. I guess you just decided to jump in and shoot your mouth off, and now you can't remove your foot. Pull really hard, or head to the ER. It's a tough position to be in. He stated that the majority were out of work. That is not even close to accurate. I accept your unconditional surrender.

You were completely wrong. Your own post says it. You may go now wimpy. Fucking little pussy. And why are you down to 75% of your pay? How much of a push over are you?

I don't disagree, and in fact I am all for the stimulus package, but I have issues with Ruth's Chris Steakhouse taking money when the locally owned seafood place can't get a dime. Same with the airlines. We gave them a huge tax break, and instead of saving or spending that money on expanding their businesses, they bought back their own stock. I wouldn't give them a dime.

Ahh, "only" 28% of Americans are unemployed. How long do you think that will last before people start becoming very upset? How many Americans both hungry and losing everything they have is a comfortable number for you?

Can I suggest anger management? Perhaps at sea too long with limited companionship can make a guy lose it. It appears that's the case with you. And remember, if you're in real trouble Popeye, just ask Wimpy to return the favor. But wait until Wednesday. That'll give you the whole week to come up with the scratch.

I have no anger at all. Just correcting your lying ass. And once again, why are you down to 75%? Obviously not worth the full 100% to begin with.

I'm not saying that's a good figure, but it's an accurate one. You'll find very quickly that I'm about precision, because playing fast and loose with the numbers makes for bad conclusions. This is not about what I'm comfortable with. There is no way to send a cease and desist letter to a virus. And if we aren't careful, we'll have a whole bunch of New York Cities on our hands. And that is far worse, at least in my opinion.
