CRT Controversy. Does it really matter what we teach in high school?!

I am glad I learned grammar and math in high school. But history? Most of it was forgettable bullshit. Can't think of anything worthwhile they taught in history class.

Most of the history I learned was in college or stuff I studied on my own.

The Critical Race Theory seems pretty pointless as a controversy.

In high school, social studies class was a pain in the ass. It was taking time away from classes that you mention above, with respect to homework and studying for tests.

We were told that learning about history is necessary because it keeps us from repeating mistakes.

How's that working out?

Oddly enough, these days researching history is fascinating.

Probably because it isn't mandatory

Why would a give a shit about names and dates of battles in the Civil War?! Forgettable.

Agree. In HS, we had enough to memorize in other classes.

Now that it isn't mandatory, I find things like the French Revolution fascinating, as it could be written about present day.

1. Then why is it being taught?
2. Why are libs denying that it is being taught?

From the Past comes the Present. It helps to put the Jigsaw together.

This explains a lot.

imo we should ignore the definition of crt and focus instead on the actual books being taught to see if they are problematic or not

because it is not. It is not possible to talk about America without talking about slavery, reconstruction, and oppression of the minorities in America. However, CRT deals with the institutions that were designed to hold back minorities and to keep them down. CRT focuses on those institutions that hold blacks back. Our teaching of history did not .

Thanks for proving my point.
