We SHOULD be all treated equally but there is litle question that we aren't. We do not live in a world of "should", we exist in the world of "are." Wishing something were the reality is not the same as being the reality.
I agree with you in some regard, however, after 364 years of slavery and overt oppression one cannot declare that racism is over and everybody is equal from this point without taking steps to repair the damage from hundreds of years of insanity. That is a long way from fairness or any sense of justice.
But the fact is that we can never make amends for what was done in the past. Can we make right what was done to the Jews under Nazi Germany? There is absolutely no way this is possible. We can not put a price on the lives that were destroyed by slavery or Nazi Germany or how many other attrocities that have been committed in the past unfortunately many of them committed by my own race.
400 years of Affirmative Action is not going to solve this issue. 40,000 years of AA is not going to solve it
So, when do we start teaching our children, white children that their black neighbors are no different then they are and that we are all equal and have equal rights? When does that happen or better yet... does it happen?
I know that sounds like "brushing it under the rug" and it is hard to justify but when do we start living like civilized people and treating our neighbors like neighbors regardless of race, color or creed?
