"COVID has a 99% survival rate that is no worse than the flu; I got a COVID shot as a precaution"

These two thoughts cannot exist in the same space.

same thing could be said for seatbelts, driving, swimming in the ocean. the thoughts can exist in the same space.

I cant agree with you here.

Right. But why are they getting a flu shot?

If COVID, or the flu for that matter, are no big deal that 99% of people survive, then why get the vaccine at all?

If almost everyone will survive it, as you and others have repeated the last 15 months, then what is the point of getting a vaccine?

Again, link me to any post where I said we should not get vaccinated. In fact I posted consistently that the only way we can protect grandma, and folks like you that live in fear, is to get most folks vaccinated and that the only viruses we have gained herd immunity to have been through vaccinations.

The reality is, folks like you that live in fear and only are pushed into action because they fear their own imminent demise are almost entirely incomprehensible to me. It is only through empathy that I would act to help you relieve that crippling fear. I don't want you to be afraid anymore.

I never said you did, did I?

What I said was that you spent the last 15 months downplaying COVID and calling it a hoax with a 99% survival rate.

So if it has a 99% survival rate and is no big deal, why are you getting a vaccine for it?

Protect grandma from something with a 99% survival rate?

Why?

Grandma would probably survive it, since it has a 99% survival rate.

So why get the vaccine at all?

Nothing you're saying makes sense.

The reality is, folks like you that live in fear

You live in fear...you just said it!

You are fearful of grandma dying of COVID, so you got a vaccination.

So COVID is serious, then, if it's so serious that you're getting vaccinated for it.

they fear their own imminent demise are almost entirely incomprehensible to me.

You do too! That's why you got vaccinated.

It is only through empathy that I would act to help you relieve that crippling fear. I don't want you to be afraid anymore.

You don't seem to know what "empathy" means.

You got a COVID vaccine because you're afraid of COVID. That's why you got it.

Now, why were you afraid of COVID when you said it has a 99% survival rate?

oh, I am not making you reply to me, sorry for the misunderstanding.

You're replying on MY THREAD, dingus.

No one asked your input on my OP.

No one asked your thoughts.

You butted into the thread, and contributed nothing.

I think you're trying to derail the thread because I've destroyed so many of yours.

Yes, in thread after thread you pretend that I have somehow suggested that nobody needs a vaccine. That, like you, is idiotic.

Yes, protect grandma from something with a 99% survivability rate. And protect you against your obviously crippling fear. Whether you think it makes sense, at least I practice empathy. 1 in 100 folks, especially the aged, dying from something that can be avoided through our action, and that can help alleviate your obviously crippling fear, means that the only ethical action is to take the vaccination even though it is extremely unlikely I would ever die from it. The reality is, that is pretty much the only reason to get vaccinations from any disease even ones that have a higher survivability rate, like chicken pox. Was I afraid my kids would die of the chicken pox? No. But some folks are afraid of that... so I got my kids vaccinated.

Yes, in thread after thread you pretend that I have somehow suggested that nobody needs a vaccine.

You're making that suggestion when you say that it has a 99% survival rate and is no worse than the flu.

So if lockdowns and masks were too much for you, why would you take a vaccine?

And it's not for anyone else's benefit because you could just lie about being vaccinated as you're being patronizing.

So we know you're not vaccinated for other people's benefits, you're vaccinated for your own because you could just say you've been vaccinated if your goal is just to be fake empathetic.

And protect you against your obviously crippling fear.

You don't need to be vaccinated to serve this point...you could just lie about being vaccinated.

But you went and got vaccinated, which is weird because no one would ever know if you've been vaccinated or not.

So why are you lying to me?

Whether you think it makes sense, at least I practice empathy.

This isn't empathy...this is passive-aggressive bullshit condescension that doesn't even make sense with your general themes.

Why would you get vaccinated for someone else's benefit when you could just skip the vaccination and lie about being vaccinated, and that has the same effect?

That way, you don't have to submit to something you think is pointless.

No. I have explained over and over again, clearly and succinctly. I get vaccinated to build a herd immunity to curb the fear of folks like you and to protect your grandma (mine died long ago). It is the only ethical reason to get a vaccine, IMHO.

I will always, and I do mean always, feel sorry for folks like you who are honestly afraid that Covid will kill you and that your only motivation to ever get a vaccine is self preservation. I am not so mercenary. And just like I stated in the past. If my actions would affect no others I would not get the vaccination.

1 in 100 folks, especially the aged, dying from something

Hold on a second...

So if lockdowns and masks were an overreaction because only 1 in 100 people die from COVID, then wouldn't getting a vaccine also be an overreaction since 1 in 100 die of COVID?

alleviate your obviously crippling fear, means that the only ethical action is to take the vaccination even though it is extremely unlikely I would ever die from it.

But nothing's stopping you from just saying you got the vaccine, even if you didn't.

So why not do that, that way you don't have to justify your fear at all with this tortured, patronizing logic.

It is empathy, though you cannot comprehend it because you do not have the capacity for it. I will not get into this again any longer. You are crippled as a human, you fear so you will get the vaccine. I don't want you to fear so I will get it too.
