DoJ to Allow Marijuana Legalization!

THAT is entirely possible.

We've been down this road before with Holder and Obama.

This should have happened long ago.
what SHOULD have happened is that the american people stayed intelligent and not allowed the government to assume powers it was never given.....like the power to prohibit the possession of a naturally occurring weed.

Where are all the libertarians giving credit to Eric Holder and President Obama for this?

How do you go about doing that without going through the process?

People thought they were electing someone who would understand the necessity for the decriminalization of marijuana. That's going through the process. They can't be blamed for that.

What they can be blamed for is not putting pressure on Obama to do the right thing after he was elected. That would have also been the natural process of demanding change, not waiting for it like a handout.

Yes, but it should be expected.

As soon as a Republican becomes pres, you can bet that the concentration camps won't be full enough. Dem Pres too for that matter.

Well...then we're screwed.....because there will never be a Libertarian President.

I don't use drugs/alcohol - But do not I want those whom use weed (fairly benign, and has medical uses) to be prosecuted.

The whole relatonship is stiil suspect -weed is stil a federal Schedule 1 drug.

Hopefully this is something that supplants the Colle Memo. I wonder if the USATTY Haag will abondon the case against Harborside?

A medical marijuana dispensary billed as the world's largest cannabis store may stay open while the city of Oakland fights a U.S. government effort to shut it down or seize the property, a federal judge ruled on Wednesday.

There has been a tug-of-war in California between federal and local authorities over cannabis sold for purported health reasons.

In February, Magistrate Maria-Elena James, the same judge who ruled on Wednesday, said the city had no right to intervene in a federal prosecutor's civil-forfeiture action against the Harborside Health Center, which was featured on the Discovery Channel reality TV show "Weed Wars."

The city appealed the ruling, and James's latest order allows the dispensary to continue to sell marijuana to individuals carrying a doctor's recommendation while the appeal is under review. James called the question of Oakland's legal standing in the case "a matter of significant public interest."

Attorney Cedric Chao, who is representing the city in the case, called the ruling "very significant."

"The court has recognized that Oakland has legitimate interests in protecting its residents' health, in promoting public safety, and in protecting the integrity of its legislative framework for the regulation of medical cannabis," Chao said.

"Today's order, coming right before the July Fourth holiday, reminds us all that one of the strengths of our country is its independent judiciary."

Harborside's landlords have moved to evict the store under pressure from federal prosecutors, who have threatened to seize the property as part of a U.S. government crackdown on what it deems to be illegal pot shops in California.

The city of Oakland in October sued the federal government in an effort to allow Harborside to continue selling marijuana to its 100,000 patients. Oakland officials warned that a shutdown would lead to a "health crisis."

The city expects to collect $1.4 million in medical-pot sales tax revenue this year.

A representative for the U.S. Attorney's Office in San Francisco was not immediately available for comment.

Federal authorities in recent years have launched a crackdown in California and other states against what prosecutors consider an illegal network of cannabis suppliers established under state medical marijuana laws.

California was the first to legalize pot for medical purposes, and nearly 20 other states and the District of Columbia have enacted similar statutes, though marijuana is classified as an illegal narcotic under federal law.

One thing to remember is, the drug(legal) industry, plastics industry, alcohol industry, religious industry, and drug cartels, will still keep paying politicians to keep persecute people in order to keep their agenda going. The chances the democrat-republican party freeing us from this genocide are slim at best.

Yes, but we traded liberty for security, and now we have neither.

In this case, the public has elected politicians for decades - presidents, senators and congressional representatives - none of whom wanted to legalize medical pot, much less all pot.

So the people have spoken - they have been ok with govt regulation of this particular weed.

Climate is shifting; that Obama seemed more lenient did not stop him from getting elected. But I think it will take another election or two before the climate is right for a president to come out pro-legalization.

Not when it causes schizophrenia and other mental problems.

I'm at a lose on this point. I've never heard anything like this.

But let's say it's true, that it's worth trading all your rights,,,,,,,,,,,,, employ drug cartels, gangs,,,,,,,,, violence that comes with it all. I could go on, and on.

I agree with that .. but legalization is not prevented by public opinion, it's prevented by corporate dollars to politicians.

Anyone here willing to claim that had Mitt Romney been elected this would have happened?
