Evil Corporations

It looks like there is something blocking your answer to "How would you feel if they just magically disappeared altogether?". It is obviously a hypothetical situation, but something is stopping you from answering the question. What are you afraid of?

^And the babble continues

Yes, they do have original programming. They also produce Kindles, Firesticks, and other products. But many businesses do not produce anything but just sell products produced by others. Amazon provides a services to millions of consumers. Let the people decide what corporations they want to patronize.

Do you want somebody to decide what corporations should exist?

Yes.

For years, I have heard lefties badmouthing big corporations as evil. I have also seen how much lefties hate the top 1%, so it is interesting to see how this has evolved. No lefties so far have expressed that they would enjoy the hypothetical situation I presented in the opening post, so I suspect that the left has evolved to a position of liking big corporations, especially the top 1% of them. Maybe the Democrats should push support of the the biggest corporations in their upcoming campaigns?

Not much on liberty, are you?

If you want to see some good Amazon original programming watch "The Man in the High Castle."

I do not subscribe nor am I a prime member. I am for some liberty. The whole libertarian Let The Market Decide nonsense is nonsense. People shouldn't be able to sell stinger missiles. The government already decides who can or cannot do business. I would probably go to prison for life if I decided to open up my $199.99 brain surgery clinic.

I'm not so sure in this current environment.

It is pretty fun to see how lefties cannot answer the opening post. Trying to get an answer to the opening post from a lefty is like trying to force a cat into a toilet.

We used to understand concentrated wealth and power, monopolization, was detrimental to society at large, now we celebrate it. Jeff Bezos owns Amazon, has ambulances sitting outside distribution centers because it cuts less into his profit margin than installing air conditioning. Buys up the WashPo. Enters into a deal with the CIA worth 3 times what he paid for the paper. Sits on the board of the Pentagon. Hires an ex CIA operative to write for the paper pushing more war.

Yeah whatever, no problem is there.

Look at what you just quoted of me, then look at how exactly your post answers the opening post.

Stinger missiles and brain surgery by unlicensed doctors are very different from Amazon, Google, or other businesses that provide useful services to millions of consumers. By removing them you are destroying one of the values of the market by decreasing competition and giving government the power to decide what corporations get to operate--a dangerous precedent.

I don't care about the value of stocks I don't own and there is no different precedent in saying no whore houses than in saying no Amazon. It is all a reflection of societal values and the government has always been the gate keeper.

There are whore houses. We don't need a government which has such concentrated power it can decide which businesses can operate. That only leads to favoritism by giving all the businesses to political allies and donors. Societal values is reflected in the number of Amazon's customers and I am sure a small percentage of Americans would want it put out of business. Neither would the public want government to have that power--so societal values totally disagree with your desire for a government gate keeper with that power.

Let the people decide which businesses they want to patronize. We have complete control over corporations--just do not buy their products and services and they are out of business--there are many examples.

You don't have to care about the value of stocks you don't own to give the people the choice of what to purchase. Allowing government to make that choice for them is authoritarianism at its worst.

Concentrated corporate wealth and power is your govt now.

Revisit the Powell Memorandum.

Would haves and should have don't change what is. What is be a government gatekeeper.

No we don't want them to disappear. We want then regulated. When America started, we chartered corporations. If they did things against the public good, their charter would be revoked.

If left on their own, corporations would pollute like crazy and exploit workers. They have great power. The only thing that remains to stand up to them is the government. We used to have unions. They were chipped away by the house and senate until they have no power.

Let's start with a big raise to the min. wage.

And we certainly do not want more power concentrated in our government. We have a choice to patronize corporations. We have no choice with government decisions.

Once upon a time before they bought it. We the people has never been what power and wealth bought into.

But not a gatekeeper that tells a business that is operating legally that it cannot exist. That certainly goes against the societal values that you think we should follow.

That is a good reason to fight increased government power. If the government is controlled by the rich and powerful (a somewhat simplistic view) then a more powerful government only benefits those in control and any program government administers serves the interest of those in control.

Government food programs benefit farmers, truckers, food processing companies, and super markets (and now fast food places). Medicare and Medicaid benefit doctors, hospitals, medical supply houses and medical equipment manufacturers, and drug manufacturers. All are examples of "corporate welfare."

That is exactly what the government should be able to tell a corporation. They need that power to stop corporate crimes. Corporations run nuclear plants. They run many businesses that could do real potential damage. The government should have ultimate power.
