Factory workers lose jobs as steel tariffs put business in "crisis mode"

The ACA didn't work because the dems were more concerned about getting women voters than they were designing an effective health insurance program that actually addressed access for the poor. John McCain suggested at the Blair House Summit that there was too much favoritism in the bill and Obama proclaimed nope the election was over. Yes lobbyist are effective, but you can't lay this all at their feet. I guess it depends on where you live, but in my area I understand that medicaid patients and increasingly medicare patients as well have a hell of a time even finding people other than the ER to treat them because the reimbursement rates are so low, and our for profit hospital still streets those people with minimal care and a referral unless they have a pressing need for care. Even among those people with the pressing need for care, they try to shove them off on non-profits in the region if at all possible. I mean it is lovely that a mother of three in the suburbs in a home making twice the median income can get some free birth control, but that comes at the expense of the precise people this effort was allegedly targeting to help.

No, regulations and Obama are not the reason the coal industry is declining --- how about I let you read the reason straight from the mouth of a partisan liberal communist coal executive himself:

"Robert Murray, the founder and CEO of Murray Energy, said Trump should “temper his expectations,” given the way market forces — rather than regulations — have hurt the coal industry and reduced employment."

..but its much easier to tell a guy in West Va that the black guy is the reason he lost his job

sure....we understand........outlawing the use of coal to produce energy had nothing to do with demand........

Sorry, data shows many of them are only barely hanging on. It’s more than just free mammogram, it is the fact that Medicaid won’t be supported, there will be cut backs, and people won’t be required to have insurance, which will increase the number of emergency rooms visits and non payment by people without insurance.

nobody is saying Medicare and Medicaid won't be supported......besides, why are they barely hanging on if Obamacare has been so good for them?........

I agree that ACA was not, is not perfect, but it insures people who weren’t insured before. Obama and the Democrats should have pushed for single payer, they didn’t. Medicine for profit is and always has been the problem in this country. When companies like Mylan are allowed to increase costs of drug solely because they can, is why costs are out of control.

Maga rubes? winning?

Steel tariffs that went into effect the first week of June are causing a factory in Missouri to lay off dozens of workers due to lost business from cancelled customer orders.

At the MidContinent Steel and Wire plant in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, where Magnum Fasteners products are made, 60 employees were laid off this month as certain operations were idled due to lost business from increased steel costs.

Company in "crisis mode"
The company is the largest nail manufacturer in the U.S. and employs hundreds of people in Poplar Bluff. It is owned by Deacaro, a Mexico-headquartered firm which ships steel from its mills in Mexico into the U.S. for a variety of finished products. The administration's steel tariffs add a 25 percent penalty to the raw material.

"The imposition of these tariffs on our raw materials on June 1st has actually put our operations into a crisis mode," operations general manager Chris Pratt told KFVS in an interview.

One employee laid off last Monday said the layoffs could be a sign of bigger problems at the nail factory, KFVS reported.

Nearly half of orders cancelled
Pratt says their customers have canceled 50 percent of their orders because the price of their products have jumped since the steel tariffs started.

Mys oh mys…..the sky ist fall'n  Those evil ass 1% ers. How quickly the left changes direction because of the hate within their hearts. Can anyone spell Propaganda? The US has enough natural resources to be totally independent from the ONE WORLD ORDER for the next 2 centuries. Its China that MUST depend upon world trade to feed, house and transport its growing population. What happened to using US STEEL to make US AUTOS and Steel frame construction? Its about time these Euro and Asian Trash was prohibited from stealing the wealth generated by American Technology. We have a POTUS with balls of steel. Truth: Trade with China will effect the US economy by less than 2% as the Total export to China equals but a little over 5%......Does anyone really assume that the US cannot find other 3rd world shit holes to make sneakers that are marked up by 500% made with child labor.....or any other of the cheap flea market CRAP that floods our market place through the effort of the Clintons' deal with the Sam Walton conglomerates?

STICK IT TO'EM Mr. TRUMP! See who blinks first. I'd wager that it might be Joe Biden's son who just received a Billion Dollar deal with our Chinese communist friends, or the Rhino from Ky. who has made millions trough one sided trade deals with China thanks to his wife. We have these lopsided extortionist deals because of HIGH RANKING politicians with the power of the purse string working for themselves and special interest groups within the DEEP STATE that TRUMP is making cry like little bitches.

I don't consider medicine for profit a problem so much as a challenge. If I sat in school that long I would want paid for it. Australian doctors start off at what RN's make here, and then work their way up to physician assistant level pay, etc, and have to be at it awhile to make the higher end.

Anyway this is all way off topic except to the extent that there are politics and policy and anecdotal stuff like the nail manufacturer is politics that have no real relevance as to what actual policy should be. Any shift in the marketplace will benefit some and hurt others. Arguably these workers jobs were being subsidized at the expense of lost steel manufacturing jobs somewhere else in the US. I am not so sure Trump is pursuing the wrong policy so much as he is doing it in such a contemptuous way that he invites unnecessary blowback.

You jelly that someone stole your side's schtick?

Unlike you, I am critical of "my side", when warranted. But you'll yuk it up with some of the most abhorrent posters about some of the most disgusting things. Whatever, if it makes you feel good to joke about the rape of women, knock yourself out. Just don't pretend you care about women.

Again WTF are you exaggerating about now?

your chart shows that it took Obama until 2015 to get unemployment rates lower than Bush's rates.....that was the 7th year he was president, right?......

You are such an idiot. Obama started with a near depression and brought the economy back from the grave. He handed over a vibrant economy. I know you do not understand graphs or you would not have shown that one. The economy is on the same trajectory it was when Obama handed it over. Do you understand slopes? Look at Bush's slope. Straight up. That is what Obama was left by him. He started dropping unemployment quickly. Trump really has accomplished nothingh but not fucking it up. But he is on his way to doing that wityh his tariffs.,

Hello Flash,

Noted.

There are gains.the

But the losses exceed the gains.

Net negative GDP impact.

Yes, tariffs usually cost more jobs than they create. China is running out of U. S. products to put tariffs on since we import much more than we export to them.

The Dems did push. But it did not get enough votes in the house and senate. They counted them and then went for what they could get through.

Obama led the weakest recovery in American history. That is a fact. Like you, he is an economic illiterate

a real president would never have let it go into the grave.....I remember when he promised his failed stimulus package would keep unemployment from going above 8%..........it took him six years to get BACK to 8%......no one has ever fucked up a recovery that badly before......
