First France, now Germany, next the US

Well, no. I take back what I said. You're not retarded. However, you do enter discussions and pretend like you know what you're talking about, when in fact you do not. :)

And you or for that matter most posters on here are different in what way?

People who seem to know better than nobel winning economists and scientists and such.
I wonder how many on here are Nobel prize winners or even scientists for that matter?
Thorn is the only scientist that I know of on here and she is very reasonable.

Thread Fail. What Europe does should be considered of ZERO relevance to the USA. I call lefties on it all the time, and will say the same thing to the author of this thread.

Do not ever presume to judge the US by European standards. To do so is to seriously harm our body politick.

3D even agrees with me. See Cawacko's premise is flawed, thus I am not Pwned therefore Tabasco and Cawacko are self skewered.

Southern Man wrote the thread, no Cawacko. But good to see we agree on some things.

:clink:

Ohh Caw and Tabasco were jumping on me about it though.
Calling me retarded and pwned and such childish things.

I do agree with you more than either one of those two though.

You quoted me, he has me on ignore. Figure it out.

Even though he has me on ignore he feels compelled to reply to my posts.

no dummy....you did not need to quote my post in order to tell him something ..... figure out :pke:

if you have issues with him, take it up with him, i'm not refereeing your relationship, be a man and don't use me to get to him

It's a close race on who has the better pic in thier sig, I'm still going with 3D but Tabasco is not gay like I thought.

You mean there is no global economy, no global conflicts and no global morality?

The SDP lost about 1/3 of their seats. The center-left Greens and the neo-communist Left picked up most of the losses, with the rest going to the FDP. The CDU gained nothing.

It's clearly erroneous to state that the Socialists lost ground, so that means that the left is dying, when the Socialists lost ground to environmentalists, communists, and liberals.

Link?

Or, The Southern Man is comparing Europe based on its own standards. The Socialists in Germany lost about 1/2 of their seats.

The Southern Man has been to Greece and Italy, and his beautify bride of 23 years is planning a two week river cruise in Germany, possibly next summer.

Once again the assumptions of a closed-minded lefty fail miserably. :)

The Southern Man is also unaware that said "Socialists," by which Moe assumes (i know this makes an ass out of me and you, so please correct me if i'm wrong) he means the Social Democratic Party of Germany, which lost 1/3, not 1/2, of its seats, which all went to the GREEN PARTY, the LEFT PARTY (basically all of the communists from the GDR that are still allowed in gov't), the FREE DEMOCRATIC PARTY, and the PIRATE PARTY (Moe is a proud constituent).

i'm sorry, i also forgot to add that the CDU, Merkel's party, lost 1.4%.

above is a link to the election results. on the left are percentages. on the right are seats in parliament. you may notice that although the CDU/CSU lost %, they gained seats, because of the 5% rule. the 5% rule means that any party that does not pass the 5% mark in the election does not get a seat in the parliament. there are, however 5% of the total amount of seats left open for these parties, which are then filled by representatives for these parties. the 2 buttons on the top are the following [Zur Erststimme]/[Zur Zweitstimme] ([to the first vote]/[to the second vote]) and [CDU/CSU getrennt]/[CDU/CSU zusammen] ([CDU/CSU seperate]/[CDU/CSU together]).

1st button - there are 2 votes in the german election: one for a party (1st), one for a candidate (2nd). these determine who fills a parties spots in the parliament. those people who are elected by the 1st vote are directly elected to parliament and take up spots allocated to their party by the second vote. if the second vote guarantees the party more spots than 1st vote members are elected, the party can fill these spots with people they select. however, if there are more members of a party elected by the 1st vote than by the 2nd vote, those people might still get to serve, depending on how many parties did not pass the 5% mark (theres a big discussion going on in germany right now as to the legality of this, so it might change in the not-so-distant future).

2nd button - CDU and CSU are the christian democratic union and the christian socialist union. basically the same party, at least nationally. basically the CSU is the bavarian (bavaria is a "state" of germany) division of the CDU, and they have the same agenda. however, they still have separate party leaderships.

i hope all this writing doesnt put you off. any questions i will try to answer to the best of my ability. i am a german/us citizen and currently studying international and european law in the hague, netherlands.

I am impressed. Welcome. I see Merkel won mainly because the taxpayers wanted tax cuts. Is that true?

yes, partly. personally, i believe its also because she did as good a job as she could the last few years. the CDU and the SPD were in a coalition gov't together. they are the largest parties, but have some substantially different agendas. this made passing legislation very hard. however, they did get a lot of stuff done, which was something people weren't really expecting, imho.

i just noticed i switched the 1st and 2nd vote in my earlier post. 1st is for a candidate, the 2nd is for the party. should have been clear from my description, so this is just in case.
