First Jan. 6 Jury Convicts Insurrectionist

That question illustrates the futility in debating mentally challenged Righties.

Actually, it is a very relevant guestion. All we have heard from the screeching lefties is "insurrection" yet no individual has been charged with that crime. Don't you find that a bit odd?

Several Proud Boys were charged with it last week. The reason it is not odd more haven’t so far is that insurrection requires proof of intent where assault, breaking and entering, trespassing, destruction of federal property do not and so are easier cases to prove in court, and prosecutors tend to look for easier convictions.

"The first trial in the Jan. 6 Capitol breach ended with a guilty verdict on all counts, a victory for federal prosecutors handling one of the largest investigations in U.S. history.

Guy Reffitt was found guilty of five felonies — obstruction of an official proceeding, interfering with police in a riot, transporting a firearm for that purpose, armed trespassing and witness tampering.

Reffitt, 49, traveled to D.C. from his home in Wylie, Tex., with an AR-15-style rifle and semiautomatic handgun, and went to the Capitol in what he called “full battle rattle,” including a handgun, a helmet, body armor, radio and flex-cuffs, according to government witnesses and evidence.

“On January 6th, 2021, Guy Reffitt challenged the police at the head of a vigilante mob determined to break into the United States Capitol. He did this because he wanted to take out Congress, and an angry, energized crowd gave him his best shot,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Risa Berkower told a jury of six men and six women in closing arguments Monday.

Reffitt “lighted that crowd into an unstoppable force” that pushed through officers making a “last stand” defending the Senate Wing doors, the prosecutor said. The riot forced the evacuation of Vice President Mike Pence and lawmakers as ballot boxes holding the electoral college election results were shuttled to safety.

In conversations recorded before and after the riot played for the jury, Reffitt said he was ready to overthrow “constitutionally corrupt” lawmakers..."

Enough said.

all depends on the judge. 5 years is about right over the obstruction related charges. Weapons charges ought to be tossed on the basis of the 2nd amendment.

Not a lawyer. Threatening to shoot people isn't a Second Amendment right.

They've been filed recently against other rioters. The charges in this case consisted of the same elements of insurrection but did not include insurrection itself, which defines the overall intent - namely to stop by force the lawful working of the national government. See The Washington Post today for an editorial suggesting the convictions in this case on the elements of insurrection may spell danger for Trump himself on a clear insurrection charge since it was he who riled them up for the assault and then sat back and watched it for three plus hours.

The Alt-Right, with many members being former jailbirds, are often Jailhouse Lawyers. Their arguments might sound reasonable, but they are not.

In this case, regardless of the terminology, there was a large plot to overthrow the nation and install Donald Trump as President despite him losing a free and fair election.

Hang the terrorists and the traitors alike.

I was asking you. What do YOU think he deserves?

IMO, he's more of a victim of our nation's lack of mental health care than labeling him an evil asshole who literally threatened his own children.

Should he go to prison for life as a terrorist or to a mental institution for treatment, even if for life?

In an America that is just to all, charitable without being enabling, what is the best path? Just be assholes to all? Be a sucker to all? Can't we be smart enough to find our way?

...channeling Alan Watts. LOL

The term is codified in the statue.

Hello Dutch,

It's pretty deep reading. IMO, it mostly boils down to people being susceptible to such ideas due to low intelligence, poor education or mental issues.

A normal person is unlikely to be radicalized by the likes of Charlie Manson. A normal person is more likely to report someone like him rather than idolize him like the people who are attracted to cults.

Trump will go down in history as a master con man and liar. That will be his legacy. He will probably always have some followers, just like Hitler.

Dude, you can threaten to shoot me on this forum and it's still a threat nor is it a Second Amendment right.

the so-called threat was treated as obstruction, the 2nd amendment charges were simply weapon possession related.
you might consider actually reading up on what is actually happening with this guy.

Or Jim Jones or Hillary Clinton. LOL

Agreed history won’t be kind to Mr. Trump. Didn’t Dr. Mary Trump call all of this correctly? :)

Agreed. Threatening to harm witnesses is obstruction of justice. Worse than bribing them because it’s violent.

It’s usually pretty easy to separate the smart criminals from the dumbasses because the dumbasses always go for violence. They’ve never smart enough to think their way out of their problems.

What’s 2/3s of the max on the obstruction charge alone?

MT had a ringside seat to all his antics. She studied so she could understand it all. I hold her very credible view high.

And it's kind of funny. Donald cut her out of everything he could, but because of his notoriety she has still be able to benefit financially from him by writing and speaking the truth about him. Poor Donald.

What goes around comes around.

Although Pedo Don's final chapter isn't written, I think it will be in the next two years.

Hello Dutch,

Come on, Merrick Garland!

Show the world that no man is above the law.

LOL Agreed that no person is above the law.

OTOH, I think the states of New York and Georgia, maybe Arizona too, will most likely pull Pedo Don off his golden pedestal and humble him in front of the world.
