Florida rejects large percentage of math school books

Well, you said the following:

"Probably would be better than some of the crap they're using today. I still have some of the ones I used in high school and they're streets ahead of the current textbooks."

You tied to claim I had some wide or complete knowledge of current textbooks. I don't. I've seen the ones the grandkids use, and some others but that's hardly comprehensive. My answer was based on extrapolation.

of course they are.

problem is publishers need to sell books and they are afraid schools might reuse texts from year to year (like they did when I was in school) and that is a dismal business model !

So they need new books every year and since there was no real need to change anything, they had to made stuff up. 40-50 years of that shit get what we have today.

Can you detail what you see as the flaws in the current math textbooks?

Please be specific. No googling.

:rofl2:

"Woke," "Indoctrination," "PC" - these are all just buzzwords that conservatives have adopted to scare middle America and try to win votes.

They're meaningless. No one on this thread has ever seen a current math textbook, and no one can name a single "woke" thing that appears in them.

Letting kids know they can be themselves regardless of stereotypes is healthy!

They have been dumbing them down, making them conform to the WOKE religion, and adding a lot of pictures.

I remember reading an article years ago by this guy who was a retired engineer who go involved with his school district. They were going to buy new textbooks and wanted a review by the school board and such as to which to buy.

The vendors for the various textbook publishers had salesmen present their books along with sample copies. The engineer took his copies home and started looking through them. Some were nothing but blank paper. Others had serious errors in the text. He asked the salesmen at the next meeting about all this. They were shocked he actually looked at the books! They explained that normally people went by the cover and that the reason they were blank was the content wasn't yet finalized. They tried to explain away the errors by saying they were "first editions" and these would be fixed in later editions.

That was years ago. I figure things have only gotten worse...
