Fossil energy harming the enviroment

Again, thanks for trolling at JPP today. Would you like fries with that?

"Would you like fries with that?"

I'm really glad that in this economy, you were still able to find gainful employment.
Just remember to wear the uniform and the customer is always right. :)

Upton said that if governments took action now, and developed long-term views of these environmental problems, it would give them a much greater chance of avoiding the worst outcomes. “The key thing is that these four biggest problems are interconnnected – biodiversity is affected by climate change and land use, water is linked to health problems, for instance. You can’t solve any one of these in isolation. So to be effective, governments have to focus on all of these four and look very closely at the connections between them,” he said.

This is what is so frustrating about the Neocon/GOP. Each decade that slips by makes the evenualy need graver. Cheney sent the movement 10 years in the wrong direction.

And without unified federal enforcement of environmental laws, a power the federal government can only plausibly have due to the arguments of Alexander Hamilton, it all falls apart. If Jefferson had gotten his way, we'd all be eating mercury in our cereal. Thank God fascists like you don't get to destroy the environment.

Now, from bizarro world itself....

Stop being a child.
My sole mission in life, beyond meeting the needs of my children, is to save the enviroment (meeting the needs of my children).
If we didn't have such a strong private centrall bank, we wouldn't have half of these problems, idiot.

Along the lines of DIY, these folks convert gasoline cars to plug in electric; http://www.diyelectriccar.com/

I collected the car last weekend and, having not seen it in the flesh, i was very pleased with what I'd bought.

It's a MK2 golf with 9'' ADC motor fitted, battery tray up front and one sunk into the rear where the fuel tank was. It needs a reasonable amount of attention but is a greater starter project for my first EV.

The lights, etc run from a dedicated 12V battery (missing) and all the wiring is there so it should just be a matter of sticking the battery in.

The brakes run off a modified VW central locking vacuum pump which will need upgrading with something better.

The interior is in good order.

I intend to use a Open Revolt and battery pack of 120V 100/110 Ah...I think. I'd love to use lithium but initial outlay procludes this as we're buying a new home and expecting a new baby in May!!

The missing piece of the electrical solution.

Small comercial trucks.

Manufacturers are neglecting a segment of the transportation industry which acounts for a significant amount of fuel.

The heavy duty van or pickup truck which carpenters, electricians and pretty much every tradesman or business utilises get far lower miliage than cars, and generalry driven much more than cars.

Electric propulsion would be ideal for many of these heavy long lasting vehicles. An option generator mounted on the vehicle could provide extended range for those who occasionaly need it.

Due to the heavy duty nature of the frame, suspension and engine components of small comercial trucks, lithium ion batteries are not required, meaning that electric trucks should demand less of a price increase over gas models than cars. A typical F-350, after removal of the engine, gas tank, cooling and exhaust systems could be fitted with cheap lead acid batteries without a weight increase and still have a 50 mile range. This is not a technology which needs to be developed. This is technology which exists today and has existed for decades.

The owner of a heavy electric vehicle will realise tremendous cost savings. Oil changes are eliminated. Brake repairs are eliminated. Fuel cost is slashed.
Fuel system repairs are eliminated. Radiator repairs are eliminated. Exhaust system repairs are eliminated. Engine maintainence is reduced to one moving part, with two bearings which litteraly cost a few dollars each. I have electric motors in my blacksmith shop as much as eighty years old, with the average
with the average being well in excess of 50 years old. The reliabilty factor of an electric vehicle versus an internal combustion vehicle is exponential.

That such vehicles are not commonplace is testament to the grasp the oil companies have on the (insert PC genitalia here) of the country.
