Years ago regular news was folded under the power of bean counters. Previously, news was a financial loser that was proudly touted by the stations as above money and slant. On Sundays, the politicians had to answer really tough questions. Face The Nation was a tough interview. They all were.
The proliferation of news stations moved the power to politicians and administration officials. They could select friendly stations and pressure neutral ones by withholding guests.
The big 3 turned into Network. They are infotainment, not news. They are bland and uninteresting, only useful in local news stories and local weather.
Trump has ended press conferences and daily briefings. That should be a clue to who has the power and uses it to throw a curtain over his activities.
