Fundamentalism

Hello T. A. Gardner,

Venezuela is a poor example compared to the ones I gave. For example, Albania had a seriously and totally socialist economy based on the worst of Mao and Red China for decades. That left it one of the poorest nations in Europe. It also--like any heavily socialist nation--had one of the most developed and insidious black markets in Europe. Today it's known as the car theft capital of Europe as well as for various criminal scams, etc. That disfunction came out of it's economic ruin under Communism.

Non sequitor. The American left does not advocate for communism; nor total socialism. We merely wish to have more socialism mixed in with our capitalism and prudent government regulation of capitalism to prevent the worst of capitalism. Capitalism and socialism work very well hand in hand with proper government control and oversight. We have all grown up under this very scenario. It existed back when America 'was great,' according to Trump supporters (whenever they choose to reveal just when they believe that was - it doesn't matter because this has gone back to before WWII and it works very well.)

N. Korea is an example of Leftist everything carried to an extreme. The economy is in tatters and there are black markets everywhere there. Threats of brutal punishment for operating a black market have not dissuaded a desperate population in the least.

Patently absurd. Please name one single American liberal who thinks we should become a communist dictatorship. Even if you could find ONE person out of 332 million Americans, that hardly describes the American left. Get real. You're inflating things beyond reality. Total and complete straw man exaggeration. Biden doesn't want that. Kamala Harris doesn't want that. AOC doesn't want that. Pelosi doesn't want that. This is nothing more than jumping at shadows.

Communism is the more virulent form of Socialism, that's all.

Just because you say so? You've created a fictitious narrative. A boogie man. Again, this has nothing to do with what the American left wants. Why don't you argue against what the American left actually says? Because it's just not so objectionable? Is that why there is this propensity to inflate and exaggerate the American left into North Korea?

Socialism is equally insidious when it comes to economies. Britain was wrecked by Socialist economics and has only recovered since those policies were reversed or dropped. Their aircraft industry was ruined to a point it will never recover. The automobile industry suffered massively from such operations as British Leyland. As in America, and elsewhere, public housing turned into a poverty trap that attracted crime.

Just because you say it was socialist policies which did those things does not make it so. You have failed to show cause and effect.

If the Left gets their way in the US, it too will go down the road to economic ruin.

That is a lost argument the moment it is penned. The left already got their way in 2008 and that didn't happen. Instead, the economy was built back strong. It would have happened faster if the 2009 stimulus had been larger. Republicans knew it, so they sought to limit the success attributed to Democrats. And they sought to suppress voting because they knew if more people could more easily vote, that Republicans were toast.

For example, the Left has driven manufacturing out of California. California at one time was the world leader in aerospace and aircraft manufacturing. Today it's all but totally gone driven out by regulation and environmentalism run amok. It's the state with by far the largest population of homeless and welfare recipients. The Middle Class there is in steep decline. It isn't Capitalism or a relatively free market economy that's killing California. It's Leftist economic policy coupled with general Leftist ideas.

It could just as easily be said that unbridled capitalism and property value inflation did that. California has attractive weather. No wonder everyone wants to live there to the point that it is spoiled by overcrowding. If there was some kind of economic drought in California it would have driven people away. But instead, the population in California has exploded. People are not drawn to an economic shambles. California is a monster of it's own creation. If there were no pollution mandates in LA, the place would be more choked with smog than Bejing.

Fundamentalism is the belief in the literal truth of every word of a religious anthology compiled over about a thousand years, and in the reconciliation of all its internal contradictions, plus its connection with the what Jesus of Nazareth preached before being 're-interpreted' by Paul of Tarsus, to be acceptable to Romans. It was a useful corrective to papal authauritarianism once.

I have to laugh every time I think of that monstrosity of imagination in Kentucky, the 'Ark.'

It's like a bizarrely bad dream with the most flagrant of sham TV evangelist hucksters meets Disneyworld.

Hollywood + fundamentalism.

Totally laughable and troubling sad that anyone believes it is representative of anything but strange imagination.

Gimme a freaking break.

it's about being vague and overly general. you have no specifics on implementation.

There are thousands of things, moving forward toward better days, progressiveness. Diminishing racism and the effects of slavery, pulling people out of poverty, making the world safer from violence, giving women a more equal standing... Painting a beautiful piece of art, writing an insightful book, making a new scientific discovery...

Just look at how the world shifted when the idea of evolution was introduced. The dominant cultural idea of the world shifted from one where children were considered simply a copy of their parents meant to do what they did and to preserve things as they had always been to one where you can change, do better and improve the world or our standing, we no longer felt we had to be a copy of our parents carrying on their lot in life.
