Geraldine Ferarro: Obama is Lucky he is black.

I guess I view it differently. You can listen to whoever you want or watch whoever you want. If you don't like someone because of the clothes they where, where they come from or their political views that is your right. You aren't forced to support them or buy their products.

There is a HUGE DIFFERENCE between simply making a personal choice, and ORGANIZING A BOYCOTT. Huge.

If people are turned off by what the Chicks are saying and it influences their enjoyment of the music, I can ridicule that, but it's certainly their right. To take it that step further & actually organize a boycott? To me, that is un-American in spirit.

The vast majority of people did not organize any boycott. Boycotts generally do not work in this day and age.

Most of the people simply decided that they didn't want to hear their message, or give them the money that they use to make their platform to speak. Without their and support they would not be famous at all, it is a bit odd to get mad at them for not liking them any longer.

Don't misrepresent my comments. I am taking issue only with those who organized a boycott, or took part in an organized boycott.

As for people not wanting to buy their records because they disagree with them politically, they can have at it. I think it's kind of silly, but I won't take much issue with that.

What actually happened is that the clear channel conglomerate, republican pimps who own republican whores in Congress, refused to play their music.

Do you have amnesia Damo? Do you need pills?

Cause it is soooooo easy to be a black man. Everyday I get up and say "oh lord why did you make me a white male in America? Do you know how hard it is be the beneficiary of the the most priviledged position on earth. How hard it is to make more money on average than ANY OTHER RACE AND GENDER in america. Lord please relieve me of this burden and strike this whiteness down and make me black."

Excellent comment to a really ignorant thought from Ferraro .. AGAIN.

The Clintons are crashing and burning their way through the Democratic Party without any concern for its future.

Somebody ask Ferraro if Hillary would be here if she weren't married to Bill.

"platform to speak"? "Their message"?

It was an offhand comment, made at night in a british nightclub. One of the chicks made an offhand comment that they were embarrassed of bush.

they didn't have a platform, and they didn't have any formal or organized "message" about being anti-war, or anything. The reaction to them was completely over the top.

And WHO isn't embarrased of Bush now? You even have about half of republicans, who claim they are embarrassed about bush.

Well I can tell you from experience of living in one of the most blue cities in America conformity is the norm here as well. San Francisco loves to celebrate its diversity but in thought it is pretty much lockstep.

This is not to say red areas aren't the same. Just from my experience it can be the same regardless of political ideology.
Once you get to areas of the country that are too far to either end of the political spectrum, you find a real demand that everyone think the same. The fringes tend to be more set in their ways than pragmatists. California is a prime example of this.

No put woman in place of Black man in what Ferrar said and see how fast Hillary and her hounds bay for that person's resignation. Obama's campaign aide that called Hillary a monster had to step down. DO you think that Hillary will ask Ferraro to resign? Fuck no!

"Boycotts don't bother me. People have a right to boycott companies or individuals that they disagree with. It's one of the more effective means of protest no matter who uses it."

I would never argue that boycotts should not be allowed. I believe in boycotts that are intended to force ACTION (like boycotting a company that chose to do business in S. Africa back in the day).

However, the purpose of the Dixie Chicks boycott was ONLY to silence an opinion that "they didn't like." To me, that is more chilling, and inherently un-American in spirit, since part of what this country was founded on was creating a marketplace of ideas with free speech & the press.

Bullshit... the Dixie Chicks were still free to express their opinion. But voicing their opinion led to consequences.... the people who disagreed with them voiced THEIR opinions via the boycott.

The Dixie Chicks stood by their words as did those who opposed their views. There is nothing wrong with either action.

You just now harp on free speech... well that is just exactly what the people who boycotted the Dixie Chicks were expressing. The Dixie Chicks were still free to voice their opinions and sell records to people who were not opposed to their positions.

The Democrtic Party had better hurry up and find a way to stop the Clinton fuckwads before they inflict irrepairable damage.

So those who try to arrange boycotts of other entities are being Un-American to you as well? Those who try to arrange protest marches against organizations or groups.... are they also Un-American to you?

Personally, I hope she continues as it will pretty much guarantee we don't have any more Clintonian Presidencies. Thus far, Obama is coming away a little bloodied, but the overall resentment towards the Reps coupled with his charisma and potential to bring this country back together are going to make it very hard for McCain to beat him. Not impossible mind you, but very hard.

Clinton may actually make Obama appear stronger with the childish attacks on Obama.

I agree that Obama will survive the Clintons, but will the Democratic Party?

There is little to no chance that there will ever be another Clinton presidency, just as there will never be another Bush in the White House.

I have learned in Politics that very rarely does NEVER apply.

Yes, the Dems will survive as a party. Especially if we continue to see crap like this from Hillary and her campaign. That said, yes, it could lead to a tougher fight than is necessary, but it is still a fight in which he will be the favorite.

True... the reign of Bush/Clinton/Clinton/Bush/Bush is over.
