Give suspects in rape cases anonymity to prevent the innocent becoming 'stigmatised',

DNA evidence only confirms that sex has occurred, I don't see how it can differentiate between consensual or non-consensual sex. If there are no signs of a struggle then the outcome really boils down to who appears more plausible to a jury.

There you have it.

The responses in this thread are real eye openers, I am reporting what the chairwoman of the Bar Council of England and Wales has said. It has been all over the media in the UK, I do not recall any of the histrionics and hysteria that you get here about it.

How convenient.

Thats the point....IF a women is raped....IF she was face to face with the scumbag...IF he leaves dna......

and your statement about Ashley is a case in point....suppose she isn't guilty at all....her life will be affected forever.........for nothing.

I guess you didn't read the article. Her point was that men specifically should be anonymous, not suspects in general.

"The identities of men accused of rape and other sex crimes should be kept secret unless they are found guilty in court, a leading lawyer said yesterday."

Sorry, not into playing silly word games today.

She wants the situation to be returned to that in 1967 where both parties were automatically given anonymity. As I've said before, this was overturned in 1988 by Margaret Thatcher's government so that only women were afforded that privilege. I speak only about the situation in the UK as it just seems too damned confusing in the US where every state appears to have different laws. By the way, can you really see a woman wanting to repeal a law so only men are granted anonymity?

Just give rape victims a restraining order from their rapist. Much safer than a gun. And highly effective at stopping crime. No restraining order has ever failed. They are like condoms
