Now how are we going to pay for the bailout and other defecit money unless we increase taxes?
Without jobs the economy will not recover.
which means they will have to pay more taxes. how can you say that isn't a tax increase?
By CUTTING SPENDING INSTEAD OF INCREASING IT! DUH!
Yeah, sorry "bailouts"... I should have said "bailouts". The "stimulus" is "saving" jobs... Do you know why? Because it is impossible to prove how many it "saves" and even though it is supposedly creating jobs already, we have still seen increases in the losses. The stimulus has little to do with getting credit flowing. The bank bailouts on the other hand . . .
Are you serious? It doesn't mean they pay more taxes. It means they have less of their now lower taxes withheld from each paycheck than they perhaps should. In the end, their taxes will still be $400 or $800 lower as the case may be.

It has yet to be strongly effective.
If they got a $400 dollar tax rebate check, then have to pay $100 of it back at tax time, their taxes got raised that year. I understand that you have to defend your dems in office, but even YOU can see the truth in the tax increase.
I'm not crying, nor even really complaining. I'm pointing out that it is yet to be strongly effective and noting that they are using the or "saved" portion a bit liberally.Waah! Things are not fixed in the first hundred days of Obama.
Sheesh what a bunch of Hooverites.
Dude, you're completely wrong on this one. It's not even arguable.
Not really. If you get a larger rebate than you were due it is not a tax increase when they take what you were overpaid back.If they got a $400 dollar tax rebate check, then have to pay $100 of it back at tax time, their taxes got raised that year. It would be like getting an extra $50 on a paycheck due to an accounting error, so instead of just making you write a check they let you keep it and took it out of the next check you received. That wouldn't make it so you got a "pay cut".

how does one get a larger rebate than they should have?
Mainly because as was stated the withholding tables are hosed.
that is funny coming from a Bushie.

By a mistake on the tables. Did you read the article? How does it sometimes happen that the accountants at somebody's place of work pay somebody a bit too much? Look. I may not like the politics of Obama, but that doesn't mean I have to try to spin everything that happens into "Something Evil Obama Has Done"... (Sounds like the good title of an Epic Poem. I may have to start writing it...)how does one get a larger rebate than they should have?
