And I know all you republicans, and conservatives pretending to be independents, are going to be thrilled with this.

The Democratic Congress is getting things done!

Democrats will point to these accomplishments:

* The first minimum wage increase in a decade went into effect in July helping the lowest-paid workers. Republicans repeatedly blocked the pay hike when they controlled Congress.

* Republicans lost their majority in last November's elections largely because of the Iraq war, but also due to voter disgust with ethics violations that left some Republican lawmakers and aides in jail or under investigation. Democrats pushed through ethics and lobbying reforms that public advocacy groups applauded while also saying the provisions could have been stronger. Bush is expected to sign the bill into law.

* Congress passed, and Bush signed into law on Friday, a series of post-September 11 anti-terrorism steps that had been recommended by an independent commission in 2004. These include broader screening of cargo bound for the United States, allocating more federal grants to cities at high-risk of attack and improving emergency workers' communications systems so they can better coordinate during an attack or natural disaster.

* The House and Senate passed different versions of a bill to significantly expand child health insurance coverage for those in low-income families not poor enough to qualify for Medicaid. Bush has threatened to veto either version, but Democrats may be able to override him.

* The House and Senate passed bills to help students handle soaring college costs and crack down on misconduct in the student loan industry. They likely will send Bush a bill in September that goes directly to the stressed wallets of middle-class parents.

* A popular measure allowing broader stem cell research that supporters hope will help cure Parkinson's disease and other incurable illnesses was passed a second time and Bush vetoed it a second time.

* Appealing to growing consumer fears of global warming and U.S. reliance on foreign oil, the Senate passed a bill mandating that cars get 40 percent better fuel efficiency and encouraging a dramatic increase in ethanol as a fuel. Democrats hope to send Bush a bill after the August recess.

* A fiscal 2008 budget plan passed with new controls that attempt to impose fiscal responsibility after years of huge budget deficits. Under the plan, any new tax cuts or spending increases would have to be paid for. Republicans complain there is no guarantee Bush's tax cuts will be renewed after 2010.

* After six years of mostly getting a free pass from Republicans, the Bush administration is facing oversight by committees with probes ranging from the Justice Department's firing of federal prosecutors to the Pentagon's handling of the death in Afghanistan of ex-football player Pat Tillman.

were going to see a Reagan sized victory for Hillary in 08 and the dems get more seats in house and Senate.
The will bring down the defecit, and cut the military budget and begin to stop jailing teenagers for MJ.:clink:

Pork spending and earmarks are down 60% from last year, according to some CNN(?) article I read.

Dems are like USC playing Notre Dame (Repubs).
Trojans spank that ass unless they totally screw it up.
08 is in the bag, it's theirs to lose.:clink:

Democrats will point to these accomplishments:

"* The first minimum wage increase in a decade went into effect in July helping the lowest-paid workers. Republicans repeatedly blocked the pay hike when they controlled Congress."

This is a mistake. Minimum wage requirements should be set at the state level.... not federal. The differences in cost of living standards dictates this.

"* Republicans lost their majority in last November's elections largely because of the Iraq war, but also due to voter disgust with ethics violations that left some Republican lawmakers and aides in jail or under investigation. Democrats pushed through ethics and lobbying reforms that public advocacy groups applauded while also saying the provisions could have been stronger. Bush is expected to sign the bill into law."

Should have been tougher and more disclosure, but a decent start.

"* Congress passed, and Bush signed into law on Friday, a series of post-September 11 anti-terrorism steps that had been recommended by an independent commission in 2004. good.

"* The House and Senate passed different versions of a bill to significantly expand child health insurance coverage for those in low-income families not poor enough to qualify for Medicaid. Bush has threatened to veto either version, but Democrats may be able to override him."

I can live with this, but would have preferred this be handled at the state levels.

"* The House and Senate passed bills to help students handle soaring college costs and crack down on misconduct in the student loan industry. They likely will send Bush a bill in September that goes directly to the stressed wallets of middle-class parents. "

Did not see this bill, so if someone has a link to it, I would like to read what it entails. Gut shot reaction is again this should be done at the state level.

"* A popular measure allowing broader stem cell research that supporters hope will help cure Parkinson's disease and other incurable illnesses was passed a second time and Bush vetoed it a second time. "

This should have been vetoed. Kudos to Bush on that front. If states want to fund research into the embryonic line, then fine. But it should not be done at a federal level.

"* Appealing to growing consumer fears of global warming and U.S. reliance on foreign oil, the Senate passed a bill mandating that cars get 40 percent better fuel efficiency and encouraging a dramatic increase in ethanol as a fuel. Democrats hope to send Bush a bill after the August recess. "

Over what time frame? three years? Five? Twenty? More details please.

"* A fiscal 2008 budget plan passed with new controls that attempt to impose fiscal responsibility after years of huge budget deficits. Under the plan, any new tax cuts or spending increases would have to be paid for. Republicans complain there is no guarantee Bush's tax cuts will be renewed after 2010. "

Every fiscal year since 1960 our national debt has increased. I will believe this when they actually DO it. Otherwise, this is just rhetoric.

"* After six years of mostly getting a free pass from Republicans, the Bush administration is facing oversight by committees with probes ranging from the Justice Department's firing of federal prosecutors to the Pentagon's handling of the death in Afghanistan of ex-football player Pat Tillman."

While I certainly believe in checks and balances and approve of the oversight, they are taking it to extremes.... Republicans against Clinton extremes.... they should be careful here or the public could turn on them.

You fool. The Hillary cannot win, and not just because she is a socialist? How can we trust The Hillary to catch terrorists when, she could not even keep her own husband away from the chubby Monica and the beautiful Gennifer Flowers? She believed him when he said he was working late, on a conference call with Arafat, when, we all know, he was in with the chubby Monica?

I would not kick Monica out of my bed for eating crackers, butt, Bill should have taken her jogging with him, instead of having her spend all of that time on her knees, not getting too much exercise? Bill looked like he was eating moore than Monica, how fast could either of them have run, and The Hillary could not catch them?

Rudy will skewer the thick-ankled Hillary in the election, and be our next President, that is my predicktion.

While I agree Hillary will not and cannot win in a landslide, she can win... even against Rudy. I would hope that the Reps find someone else other than the current crop, because Rudy is the only one at this time that can give her a run... and it would be a tight run.

Hopefully the Dems will chump their nomination as they have done the past two elections. Maybe they will end up with Edwards... who is beatable by at least three of the Rep frontrunners.

Right now, I am holding out a faint hope that Bloomberg will run as an independant with either Richardson or Hagel as his VP.

You really think that?

I think Edwards has a much better shot than Hillary in the national. In early polls of head to head matchups, he's doing much better than her against the top R's.

She's too polarizing, and will motivate the GOP base much more than he will...

Who? John "Tax the MiddleClass" Edwards?

While she is certainly more polarizing, she has a very solid base. I don't think Edwards would stand up against a rock, let alone any of the top three Reps.

Richardson is the best of the Dems nationally in my opinion. The far left would not be as happy with him, but they would vote him over any Rep AND he would carry the independants over any of the Reps. But I don't think he stands a chance in the Dem primaries, so really kind of moot.

Richardson is doing a great job of jockeying for the VP position (kind of like Biden & the SOS position). He'd be a great choice. I don't think Hill would pick either Edwards or Obama...

I am sorry, butt, you do not seem to know what you are talking about? Is there an epidemic of stupit lefties here? The Hillary, has fat ankles, which could be overlooked, butt, her stupitity in not knowing that Bill was not eating only Big Macs in the oval office, cannot be? If two horny chubsters like Bill and Monica could so easily outsmart her, how hard would it be for Usama to do it?

Well Bush has obviously been outsmarted by terrorists....
Which has made our country more unsafe and cost lives and megabucks ?

Bill lied but no one died!

I miss bill.....
I saw that on a Bumper sticker the other day :)

This is a perfect example of attempted leftie censorship? This poster is answering my post, butt, he purposelly does not quote it, so that the American people will not see it? I am warning the lefties on here, if you do not quote my post, in an attempt to bury it, I will not answer you. Touche MF...LOL
