Cause it was the politicians who were about to confirm an individual for life to the Supreme Court that she felt due to personal experience deserved a second look. Going to her local law enforcement would not have any effect on that process

The way I see it is that without a criminal conviction, there is no crime. Regardless of what any "witnesses" say, there is no reason not to confirm his appointment.
