GOP Delegation meets privately with Bush; Tells him to stop lying about Iraq

BREAKING NEWS.

Sort of like a Goldwater/Nixon 1974 moment:

NBC is just reporting that a GOP congressional delegation of 11 members, went to the White House, and met with Bush in his private quarters.

Evidently they were totally blunt with him, told him he has lost all credibility on iraq, that his adminstration now needs to be honest about iraq, and be candid.

They also told him that their constituents were prepared for defeat in iraq. I guess that means they think there's no point fighting and dying simply for a president's ego.

wow. This is pretty big.

I'm still baffled at how people can still support republicans. Yes, its good that they stood up to him, but where were these effin' idiots 4 years ago?

Also, I heard on CNN that one of his constituents in a meeting told him that his district in Northern VA, Bush had a 5% approval rating.

Realistically I think he should be at a 5 - 8% approval rating nationally, but that's just me.

ROFL-time!

That's in OJ Simpson approval-rating territory!

They were for him before they were against him so it is alright.

I am glad I lived long enough to see the tables turned on Bush and his lies.

"you can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time"

I am proud to say I was NEVER fooled by this idiot!

You didn't ask me but if I may answer how people can still support Republicans...

I view it like this. I have a set of political beliefs. And kind of like a dating site where they try to match people by personalities and stuff I've gone down the line and found Republicans generally support my positions more than Democrats, Greens and Libertarians (although the Libertarians come close).

Then of course there's the individual either running for or in office already. Do you like their character? their leadership abilities? etc.

For me personally, even though I have found a lot wrong with the Republican leadership what the Democrats offer is not enough to make me want to switch. Ths of course puts me in a position I think a lot of people find themselves and that is not being happy with the party they "support" but not wanting to support the other party.

Boy do I hear you.

That is put very well cawako....very well indeed.

I mean I am trying to find a democrat on the national scene I can get behind but the ones I can have no chance of being acknowledged by their party, much less getting the nod for president.

Cawacko,

There comes a time when you have to stop worrying who's better on marginal tax rates, who's better on minimum wage, and who's better on privitization of toll roads.....and you have to ask yourself, who is actually really hurting the country? Who is destroying our hard-earned moral leadership, who has led us into a historic blunder in Iraq, and who is destroying american leadership and credibility in the world. IMO, these are historic times, and worrying about marginal tax rates, or privitizing toll roads is trivial. America's reputation, and long-term standing in the world are at stake.

The Bush republicans have done more damage to america than we can even possibly imagine. It will take years, maybe decades to repair. And as far as I can tell, McCain, Romney, and Guilliani have stood shoulder to shoulder with Bush on virutally all his decisions and policies. They can't hide and pretend they didn't now.

Am to understand despite the havoc Bush & Co have created over the last 2,301 days you are going to elect the cronies that stood by him unconditionally and erroneously supported him? What can the democrats possibly and realistically do that is worse than what Bush has done to us over the last 6 years? Fund Social Security? Try to make health insurance available for more people? Oh.....the horror. Pull out of a civil war and save us billions of dollars?.....oh, the humanity...................

Based on who's running now Romney was a Govenor and Rudy G. was a mayor. I'm not sure how they unconditionally supported Bush as those jobs hardly interact and I'm not sure how they are cronies. McCain's a Senator and yes he supports the war but his voting on taxes, a major issue, was not lock step with Bush.

First of all I have no idea who I will support in 2008. I have a year and a half to decide that. I can tell you I will never vote for Hillary Clinton but besides her everyone's in play. I do not know who I will vote for in the Republican Primary. No one has moved me yet to want to join their camp.

You bring up issues like social security and health care. Not surprisingly those on the right and left differ on those issues. I defnitely support allowing individuals the option of putting a portion of the S.S. tax money into a private account if they so desire. I want all people to have health care but I do not support a government run system. I will go out on a limb and surmise you disagree with me on both those issues which is fine.

Do you think if Hillary is elected in 2008 she is going to pull all of our troops out of Iraq?

Again, given the context of the times we live in Cawacko, you're flailing around and grasping at trivial reasons to keep supporting the party that gave us the Iraq War, fiscial mismanagment, and large scale corruption. ;)

I don't think your concern about taking a small portion of your FICA tax, and putting it in the stock market, is really on a par with these issues which were a direct consequence of your vote in 2000 and 2004:

-Pentagon Breaks Pledge To Troops, Sends Them Back To Iraq After Just Nine Months At Home

-Violence in Iraq continues unabated: Cost to america? $500 billion and climbing.

-US Army broken, worn down. National Guard virutally destroyed.

-Katrina, cronyism, corruption, bribery

-America more hated in the world than at any time in history

-Terrorism on the rise, Iraq war fueling terrorist recruitment and anti-americanism.

-Fiscal mismanagment, record trade deficits, long-term structural budget deficits.

etc

Till this day they both have explicitely stated that they support Chimp's unfounded and pointless war, despite the obvious mismanagement of it.

No, I don't plan to support Hillary in the primaries specifically because of her support of this war.

There's no question the dems that are in office now are far better suited for international relations and settling disputes in a non-unilateral manner.

Am I to understand that your biggest fears of a democrat in the oval office is that you'll won't get to invest your SS in a private account or that you're biggest fear is that you really think we'll have a socialized medical system?

To be fair, Bush did sign the do not call list into legislation. In the 2300+ days he's been in office, he at least did something I liked.

Bill Clinton had a scandal filled administration and now so has George W. Bush. Does that mean I should vote for Hillary because it's a Democrat's turn to have a scandal filled administration?

W. is not running again. The Republican nominees are not W. Because W. f*cked up doesn't mean I wouldn't vote someone like Rudy.

The Democrats ran Congress and they were corrupt. The Republicans took over and they were corrupt. If you're trying to tell the Democrats are all of a sudden not going to be corrupt again I'll listen to you but I won't believe you.

Hillary is also going to be the Democrat nominee. I will not vote for her. That's on principal. I'll vote Libertarian before I vote for her.

I see three people here with the same ole same ole Cypress. If only the dems would put up someone who wasn't outright evil and does spells with Satin, then I could vote for a dem, because I think what the repubs have done to my country kind of stinks, and I am looking for an alternative.

Maybe when we don't have a country left, then they can vote for someone other than a republican.

Cawacko, there's no need to leave Tiana hanging. You're voting for the Republican in 08. :)

What do you mean Hillary is going to be the dem nominee? Should we call off the primaries?

I still have my heart set on Gore. So, just hold onto your horses there.

And Cawacko, we are talking real corruption here.
