Oil companies control and own every single drop of oil they extract here, and they are under no obligation to sell that oil to us for consumption.
Also, US production is about 1/3 of OPEC production, which means OPEC can very easily negate any increase in production we do in order to maintain the current price per barrel OR they could ramp up production in order to drive down the price of oil thereby bankrupting US oil companies which is exactly what happened in 2015-2016.
The only way we achieve true energy independence is to nationalize the oil companies and withdraw from the global oil markets...but y'all don't want to have that conversation because it upends every single one of your stupid and wrong beliefs.
