one would think that the arizona legislators would be smarter than this, instead of listening to the vocal minority. This will be ruled unconstitutional by the federal courts, the toughest sheriff in america will ignore the ruling anyway.

I was listening to Tom Hartman show today, and a woman called in and stated that as a Native American, she is many times mistaken for Mexican. She fears that a LOT of her people will be rousted and/or "detained" if this law passes.

And where's Sen McCain's thundering denouncement of all this?

what i wrote was from what i got from cnn

a later session said that if a police officer thought that a person was an alien or perhaps i should say an illegal alien that they could require that person to show proof of citizenship or legal residence, but the key point was it would be in the opinion of the police officer

if you know different, please post it

My understanding is that if you're stopped for a civil or criminal violation and the Officer has a suspicion that you are an illegal, then you can be asked for proof of citizenship.
But since everyone is asked for proof of insurance, vehicle registration, and a Drivers License, what is the problem??

do you have a problem with officer's stopping suspicious people on the street if they reasonably suspect a crime has been committed?

what about customs officers? border agents? they can both stop and search your person, belongings for less cause. do you also believe that is wrong?
