Staten Island & Putnam County.

Italians, and Poles voted Trump & are pretty high income & well educated in comparison..

Poles & Italians have poverty rates at about 1/2 that of the National average, 2/3rd White American average.

I have not one ounce of Italian blood.
But, many Italian friends, However.

Because it's not just the South.

Pawling, NY where I now live, used to be much poorer when it was largely Irish, English, German & Scottish.

It became richer with the arrival of Poles & Italians.

Even till this day the worst derelicts in Pawling, NY are still mostly Scottish, English, seldomly Irish or German.

But, almost never Italian, or Polish.

Up North,
there are Protestant hicks galore

Like the Dover - Oniontown area.

Yup still living in trailers.
Still mostly Scottish, English & Germans.

I'm Catholic (Czech/Irish/Kraut, and my Slovenian side were Orthodox), but, I consider my upbringing to be what I term WASC. Very proper, classical American values (no cussing, drinking, family drama, etc.). I even attended Latin Mass and sang Gregorian Chant in the choir, because my dad does not love Vatican II and the Novus Ordo.

I am a lot like Russell Kirk in that I am fascinated by America's English roots, and look down my nose at the Continent, despite being Catholic.

I think I would leave Florida, but I am not sure, depends on where we shake out. If we join Alabama and South Carolina I am out, if we stick with the New England and Pacific Coast, Ill stay.

I live in the most liberal county this side of Moran. The three South Florida states are more liberal than most places in the world, yet we suffer from being held back by the poverty stricken counties to the north. Florida is one of the least red of the red states. We are likely to go blue soon.

Florida and Georgia, Texas, North Carolina and Virginia might come along eventually, but I think the rest of the states, for the most part, might prefer to wallow in their own misery. We could offer aid to places like South Carolina, Alabama and Mississippi and asylum for the women and minorities.

I am an agnostic, but I was raised Catholic.

I went to public schools so I never learned to serve Mass as a kid...but learned when in the Air Force in the mid-1950's (the Chaplain asked for volunteers to learn the Latin)...and actually got to serve Mass in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. I also served at a High Mass for the Cardinal Catholic Prelate of England.

Would you still rather have Gillum as Governor than DeSantis? You were a big Gillum supporter weren't you? Is that your kind of guy?

BTW, nobody is forcing you to stay in Florida. Not even Trump. Why limit yourself to just a liberal county when you can move to a liberal state like California?

There’s no question Florida has a big element of purple to it. Yet you’ve had a Republican Gov for the past 20 years, Republicans control the state legislature, you have two Republican Senators and the state voted for the Republican Presidential candidate. At least at the moment that’s pretty red.

I wanted Gillum to win, I did not support DeSantis.

I have been surprised by what an improvement DeSantis has been over Scott. I don't care that Gillum is gay or bi or something. Had he been elected governor, I do not believe he would have been on drugs. Who knows. Gillum would likely have been a better governor. Gillum would absolutely be a better President than Trump* is.
