We have a military. We need private militias like a hole in the head.
Private militia members are pretty much universally psychotics who represent zero value to the nation but are a serious liability.

They should have just said that the right to private ownership of firearms by citizens should not be infringed.

Aside from an inspiring preamble and some attempts to protect individual liberties, our constitution, as a legal document, is pretty amateurishly done.

By the way, banning private ownership of specifically identified military weaponry could still be accomplished without infringing on the right to bear arms.
