Headline news over at LP.org

They're regulating it to speed along the transition. If everyone in the nation used them, the nation as a whole would be better off. Some people don't know about the advantages and just go for the cheaper incandescents.

Damn ignorant people! Never knowing what's best for their own lives.

Gridlock would be great if we didn't have troops stuck there. I normally am a huge fan of divided, obstructed government, but I think we need to sort this whole "Iraq" business out first.
And after four years of Hilary and company passing laws willy nilly we will have higher taxes, more regulations and less liberty. Anyone else gotta a gun? The tree needs watering I think.

CF bulbs are supposed to last approximately 7 years "when used as directed". Even if they do last that long, seven years is not a long time. Governments need to mandate disposal plans for these things.

One day, we make a harmless decision designed to outphase outdated and useless products faster.

The next, FASCISM!@!!?1/1?1?!

CAN'T YOU SEE THE LOGICAL CONNECTION THERE?!!

That's a moon libertarian.

No matter how much you would like to believe otherwise, it is a slope.

If your argument for regulating this is "People don't know what's best for themselves" then anyone can use that argument successfully in the future to regulate almost anything. Even if you didn't intend to, you did your little part to slide us that much farther toward fascism.

My main argument is that it's not hurting shit.

Watermark, the point is that we shouldn't allow the government to over-reach, regardless of how minor it is. When no one screams when government exercises power that it has not been granted by the people, people get the idea that this is power the government simply HAS.

Congress keeps doing these things because we've let them get away with it too many time, and now they think that such actions are within their purview, when it isn't supposed to be.

Yep, phasing out old technology is a tremendous overreach, the next step is certainly fascism. Prepare for people in boots to go around with guns, killing people who hold onto their incandescents, and brutally crushing the underground incandescent market that will certainly emerge.

Stop with the Straw Man. It isn't okay to let the government "break the rules" just because it is a minor infraction.
