Friends, this is the same public "educational" system that teaches homosexuality is a special life style and it's practitioners are a separate gender among many other things while it continues to waste our tax dollars dumbing down our kids to mind numbed idiots who behave like the animals they all think they came from while at the same time forbidding something like this .. I might add.

By your comments you must have flunked biology or it was never offered in your school, talk about being dumbed down.

Praying for the outcome of a football is ridiculous, anyway, use your prayers for the end to world hunger or for peace, not one stupid high school football game. Pray for those players to be decent young men after the game. They don't need to be lead in prayer by the coach, they can pray silently or have a student lead the prayer.

Why are his rights being violated? He's in violation of the Constitution?

And can you provide proof our public schools teach homosexuality as a "special life style"? Cuz #1, homosexuality isn't a lifestyle and #2, it's no more special than how breeders live. We all get up in the morning, put on our pants, go to work or school, raise our kids, and die.

Can I ask you something, Howey? Do you have a particular disdain for straight people(referring to the term breeder)?Or is it more of a "return fire" kind of thing against people who have a problem with gays and use derogatory terms towards them?

Just curious.

Sounds like the school and the coach did the right thing and stopped the prayers once they were alerted to the issue.

Great!

I really didn't understand "siwwy wabbit"'s initial post - is English perhaps his second language? or maybe he was just in a hurry, that can happen. I don't know anyone who teachers that gay people are a separate gender; what the heck was he trying to say?

The latter. I'd like to refer you to my first ever post on this forum:

My name is Howey.

As my profile states, I'm a 100% disabled veteran, 100% gay, and 100% pure me. I enjoy intelligent conversations regarding politics, but am not afraid to get muddy. I thrive on pointing out the hypocrisy, hatred, and misinformation of the right wing so think before you post!

It was part of an after school activity.

Your queer politics agenda should be an optional after school activity.

All of you applauding this should learn the difference between school curriculum and extra activities such as sports.

So if you start praying for the end of world hunger does that mean we can end food stamps?

"Serious situation" ... Really? It's a "serious situation" when a player leads a prayer after a game. Doesn't say what he was praying for (ie. outcome of the game or something similar) but it does say that it all started when a player asked his team mates to pray with him for his ill brother ... and it looks like players were allowed to leave if they didn't want to participate. The violation is that he coach stayed in the presence of the team while a student led a prayer. I get that people don't want any form of religion (especially Christianity, it seems) connected with school but ... "serious situation" ... please.

If a player left, how would they be perceived by other players for not praying for the ill brother? Could this lead to bullying, injury or osteraization by the other players?

You seems to think that Christians are more perseuted? Would it be more acceptable if this student was Muslim, placed his prayer rugs on the floor and asked others to join him, or if a Wiccan brought in sage to burn for a cleansing ceremony?

Honestly, it wouldn't bother me one bit (in fact, I'd be really interested to observe the Wiccan) as long as it was a student doing the leading. My real beef with the article was the lawyer describing this as a "serious situation." I just don't see it as such.

It wouldn't bother you, but there are people who would be outraged.

Yea we're back to your government schools again. Rules. Who's rules? Your progressive rules.

What is the moral foundation of western civilization?

Let me see you dance around this question.

Since you apparently don't understand the concept of separation of church and state, it's impossible to debate this with you; I'll give it one last try, but then you're on your own.

School grounds, school sponsored activity: ergo, no prayer, especially as it could be seen as coercive. What athlete is going to refuse to pray when the coach is there and the rest of the team is doing it?

When I'm at someone's house and they choose to do a prayer before dinner, I'm quiet, but I don't participate in the prayer; I still feel slightly coerced, but that's a private dwelling, I don't have to be there, so I'm ok with it.

Schoolkids? They would feel more coerced and less able to leave.

I do wonder what your reaction would be if the story had been about a muslim player who pulled out a prayer rug and asked the whole team to join him on his knees praying toward Mecca. (The scenario proposed by Rana)

You know what the moral foundation of western civilization is but you're doing the Mambo instead rather than tell me what it is.

And there is no separation of church and state in the constitution and that lie is a myth placed in the schools by you people just like the queer politics agenda was .. on purpose.
