Hillary Clinton chooses Tim Kaine as her running mate

I have no idea and I've never heard of him till a week ago.

If I'm Hillary [ugh lol] my worry is mobilizing the minority vote since the white male vote is a lost cause anyway. Is there a shortage of minority democrats to choose from?

Did she want to lock up VA in November? That doesn't make a lot of sense because VA is one of, perhaps the only, swing state she has a good lead in.

I don't know why she picked him.
Then you haven't been paying attention. Kaine has been a rising star in the Democratic party for around 10 years. He's a Democrat who knows how to win elections in the deep south. He's a hawk on defense, moderate on social issues, conservative on abortion, a Keynsian on economics. Pro-free market and trade though he did vote for sugar tariffs to stabilize the price. He's liberal on civil rights. Sounds like my kind of guy.

Kaine is definitely a SOP to centrist, moderate, independent voters. He has all the requisite education, experience and bonafides for executive leadership too (as does Pence).

Clinton's and Trumps VP selection definitely show different electoral strategies. Clinton is definitely storming towards the center as her selection of Kaine would indicate. This is not going to please progressives or Bernie bro's. However it does give her the ability to build a much broader constituency than her opponent.

Trump on the other hand is doubling down on a voter turn out strategy by selecting the uber conservative Pence.

He's a boring former Governor of Virginia and Senator on the Armed Services Committee.

He is calm and smart and moderate.

It says to me that HRC feels like she does not need much help electorally or demographicly. Her internal polling must be saying something other than what the public polling is saying.
I tend to agree. Kaine won't hurt her with moderate/centrist voters in the South and Midwest either but I think she largely selected him on his qualifications to be a chief executive.

I can't say that. Pence is a tone deaf pompous ass with a sheltered, naïve, 18th century world view. I like him the least of the four.

More of a comment that I wish it was Pence against Kaine instead of Trump against Clinton. Pence is 3rd overall for me.

Trump is a very distant 4th, though. I just watched clips again of him making fun of a disabled guy, and implying that Megyn Kelly was menstruating. Not sure if it's possible to set the bar any lower for a Presidential candidate.

lol.... She is going for the disenfranchised repubs hating on the trumpf for successfully usurping their party...

It is funny, in a sad kinda pathetic kinda way....... They have worked all these years & in a few months they are now rooting for the very man hellbent on destroying it & sending the party in the opposite direction...............:rofl2:

Usually you get a 2-3 point boost shortly after announcing your VP. Hillary Clinton has been sliding in the RCP polling average since she announced her pick. What a garbage pick.

I wouldn't say Kaine is conservative on abortion. You know being pro-choice means just that. I don't care if someone is personally pro life and wouldn't have an abortion. I care that they understand that is their choice, and women must be free to make their own choices.

Kaine has a 100% rating from both Planned Parenthood and Naral. You do have a few on the puritopian left who always have to whine about their sore behinds and call attention to themselves, complaining about a pro life license plate he allowed to be made in VA or some crap. I don't pay attention to puritopians. If you listen to them once you realize all they are really saying is "Pay attention to ME, Pay attention to ME" and then you never have to listen to them again.

Besides we have Hillary at the top of the ticket and there is no American politician I trust more on women's issues than her. I don't worry about perfection. I wouldn't trust if I thought I saw it.

I don't want someone who hates women in control of the country. How could she choose someone who's anti-choice? That should be a dealbreaker.

Now, THAT should be scary, since at least some convention bump should be registering by now. It can often be in the double digits; if that's the bump, there should be some panic on the right.

sorry, were you confused?......that was the RCP average.......his bump is here....

LA Times/USC 7/17 - 7/23 2083 LV -- 42 45 Trump +3
Gravis 7/21 - 7/22 3462 RV 1.7 49 51 Trump +2

so your prediction is that Hilldreary will lead Trump by double digits next Sunday?......I can't wait to see if you're right.....

Darla, I remember you being up in arms about Obama potentially choosing Tim Kaine in 2008.
