Hillary/Giuliani in dead heat

There is a missing element in the "Hillary can't win" argument that rarely gets addressed. The focus tends to be only about what the right and those who don't like her will do. But rarely is the surge of women voters that will likely go to the polls in record numbers ever addressed. Nor is the large number of African-Americans that will vote for her addressed, and if she's picks Obama as a running mate, make that huge number .. in record numbers that will vote for her. Obama also brings some relief to democrats angry about Clinton's war stance.

Additionally, if Guiliani is the candidate he'll have his own intra-party backlash to deal with and democrats and independents who may be angry at Hillary, but can't stomach the idea of Guiliani's face on America.

Discount her if you choose, but Hillary is tough.

1) Actually I addressed the female vote as one of the reasons they are sticking with her

2) As for the black vote, for clarification... do you think more black voters will vote on the whole because she is running? Because the overwhelming percentage of the black vote goes to the Dems regardless of whom they select as their candidate. So unless her being the nominee will drive more black voters to the poll, then this is a moot point. I do agree that Obama on the ticket would do so, but I don't see her selecting him as her VP.

Side note BAC, if a woman goes and votes for Hillary simply because of her gender, then that is just as sad and pathetic as a man voting against her simply because of her gender.

She holds a significan lead amoung woman.
I would classify it as a bad vote if they want a woman Pres
Us guys have been fing it up long enough.
Time for the better gender to take over.

I belive if Obama is Senator Clinton's running mate, black people will vote in Record numbers.

I wish the first woman president were going to be someone whose husband did not blaze the trail for her. That would be a true simbol of women's equality.

Women aren't going to vote for hillary just because she's a woman. Although, I will agree that the woman's vote this cycle is very important. I was reading an article that single women, and single Mom's are the fastest growing demographic in the the female vote. And they've been amongst the most marginalized and ignored demographic. They're going to vote for someone of addresses their concerns: education, jobs, economy, healthcare. That's a platform ripe for Democrats to promote. I'm not sure the war/islamofascist/cut taxes platform of the GOP is going to appeal to that demographic. But, it all depends how bad the Dems want to appeal to that consitutency.

I still don't think it fundamentally boils down to a gender or skin color thing. If Hillary chooses to go with some some war-loving, corporate interests platform, without realistically and convincingly addressing the needs of working class americans - many of which are black, or single women - that demographic is not going to be the deciding factor.

Cypress what do you attribute Hillary's huge lead among dem woman.
Or are you saying basically the same dem plus she's a woman.

IF she selects him as her VP, I agree. But is that her likely choice?

I belives as a pragmatic woman, he would be her first choice as he would be the choice most likely to get her elected.

Richardson would be a second great choice as he would bring in a huge wave of Hispanic votes.

If she is smart she will get Obama as VP, then announce early that Richardson will be her choice for something like Secretary of State.

i dont even like rudy.. but if hes up against Hillary i will go vote for him. If its Obama versus rudy or Edwards i would either vote for them or for third party.

Hillary will cause allot of right leaning indi's to vote for rudy.

Ohh the old at least I did not vote for Kerr... err Hillary line.....

I don't believe the polls for now. And I don't know what her level of support is, among women.

I do know this. Women won't vote for a woman, simply because she's a woman. Do you think Margaret Thatcher, or Elizabeth Dole could win the majority of women's votes here, in a national election? I don't. I think women are largely issues driven, just like men.

I bet they got the highest % of woman and HIllary will carry woman
Its rediculous to think other wise
first dems are better on womans issues, who better than a woman to implement.

Interesting. Obviously she is going to pick the running mate that gives her the best chance to win. Personally, I think Richardson would be the first choice.

Mainly for the reason you mentioned... the hispanic vote. Which in my opinion is going to generate the greater numbers in terms of a sway as hispanics are more evenly split between Rep and Dem than black voters are and thus there is more to gain.

That I agree with. But, any Dem - male or female - is generally better on issues that are important to the majority of women. I don't think Hillary can count on a massive turnout of women voting for her. Its going to come down to how well she sells herself on ISSUES important to women. Particularly single women, and single moms. I think the Dems have taken that demographic for granted for too long.

She already survived 16 years of the GOP attack machine beating on her, and she is still neck and neck with Rudy.
Hmm. You've got a point. There's not much more they can say about her that they haven't already made up . . . er, said.

As I've previously stated, I'm not voting for her, regardless. Still, I can't help but sympathize with her -- and admire her ability to get the jaws foaming over on the far right.

I'm voting for the dem nominee regardless, we need that much change.
I do hope she chooses Richardson, I think he's best on energy and medical ghanja

Ornot, if Hillary does win I might have to listen to Rush and his ilk a bit. Will be great to hear him have a stroke on the air.
