I don’t disagree. The Bible has been [mis]used to justify all sorts of heinous behavior. I was simply answering Jarod’s claim that “Homosexuality simply [is] not called a sin in the bible.”

It isn't called a sin in the Bible. BTW, those verses you listed talk about perverse acts and the Roman pagan worship activities. Using boy slaves and prostitutes for their own perverse pleasure. Think Epstein.

In our language no doubt the two words are different, but looking at the Greek word that is translated “sodomite” it appears that’s what the writer meant.

There's a major difference between being banned from something or forced to do something versus having freedom of choice....even if it's experimental.

So the sin was inhospitality and unwilling to help the poor people and needy and not welcoming the guests properly.

The word "sodomy" was defined later to mean anal sex.

Plus homosexuality is a sexual orientation. It's an attraction. Nothing to do with anal sex. Every time certain people hears that word, anal sex always immediately comes to their minds. It's a conditioning.

The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was ancient history to Jesus with about the same amount of time between Jesus and Sodom versus the time between us and Jesus. The destruction passed on into legend over the millennia. It's natural to wonder "why them?" just like it's natural for survivors to say "Why me?"

In the end, it's those who write the history books that define history. Science can verify or clarify the truth.

Around the same time two cities in southern Syria were wiped out by a volcano with Sodom and Gomorrah wiped out by flood. The theory I recall is that the stories were conflated over the hundreds of years into one cataclysmic destruction closer to home.

Thanks for the link. IMHO, the legend of Sodom and Gomorrah is a conflation of complete cities destroyed for mysterious reasons. Being whacked by a space ice ball or rock would definitely catch people's attention.

A comet/ice ball was also thought to have caused the major events about 12,800 years ago.
