The House on Monday overwhelmingly approved legislation that would make lynching a federal hate crime, two years after a similar effort passed the chamber but was held up by Sen. Rand Paul.

H.R. 55, the Emmett Till Antilynching Act, was introduced by Rep. Bobby L. Rush (D-Ill.). It would amend the U.S. Code to designate lynching a hate crime punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Aren't they over 100+ years too late? Or are they thinking about themselves?

PS: "Hate crimes" are bullshit.

A crime is a crime if all men are created equal.

Back when the KKK was the military arm of the Democratic party, there was about 500 lynchings a year. The people lynched were Blacks and White Republicans. Once Democrats stopped lynching, lynching stopped. There is no need for legislation now.

So ... does this mean that black people who attack Asian people are going to be punished?

Jessie Smollet will be glad to hear this.

Dude, it's 2022 and this is the bullshit our government is doing. :palm:

What the actual fuck, really?

"Bobby Lee Rush is an American politician, activist and pastor who is the U.S. representative for Illinois's 1st congressional district, serving in Congress for almost three decades. A civil rights activist during the 1960s, Rush co-founded the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party. Wikipedia"

odd......I thought it was already illegal to lynch people.......worries about all the missed opportunities......why have we put up with Desh all these years?.....

A hate crime is based on the intended sake of instilling fear and to intimidate a group. hanging , burning crosses , swastika.. etc

It would make it a federal crime, so cracka states like Mississippi fail to bring charges like they did in the 60's

Yeah, but if all men are equal, a crime is the crime it is.

Look, dumbshit: I know that "Hate crime" laws were just a foot in the door to bring about "Hatespeech" laws that got shot the fuck down in America.

Hate crime laws are bullshit.

A crime is a crime, nobody needs any new laws.

I wonder if it's a hate crime if a black guy lynches a white guy?

:bigthink:

Yeah, me too.

Or if 3 black kids pour boiling water onto an old white woman's head in the commission of a robbery. She died 3 weeks later.

They did it because she was white. Is it a hate crime? According to "the standards", it is. Let's see what happens, though.
