Since I was young Democrats have claimed Republicans were going to end S.S. and Medicare and yet somehow not only are they still in existence, they continue to grow. If someone who didn't like those programs supported Republicans because they thought they would get rid of them then they are the true definition of low information voter.

I'm not sure you actually read the article you posted because I repeat, it stated nothing of any proposals going to Congress. It simply stated the fact that anyone serious about addressing debt must address entitlements. People putting their head in the sand upon hearing that doesn't change the facts.

So how does this work. A normal elderly person goes to a doctor, the doctor bills Medicare for part of the cost, and the patient for part of the cost. You do not want to use Medicare, so you tell the doctor you want to pay 100% of the cost? That seems weird, paying money you do not have to.

When the ACA is trashed, that automatically cuts Medicaid. As you mentioned, the Red states have denied their constituents access to healthcare for decades. Blue states might just find ways to make up the funding, but this will be interesting to watch.

I'm quite sure drug companies aren't going to be happy about Medicaid cuts. Hospitals will go back to being primary care facilities for millions of Americans.

To get technical the government calls them entitlements because if you meet the criteria (are of a certain age, have paid into the system etc.) you are entitled to receive them.

(We tend to think of entitlements as receiving something we didn't earn, thus why people often take offense to S.S. and Medicare being called entitlements. But if you look at the government's books, they are listed as entitlements for the above stated reason.)
