My personal experience and what I have heard from others is that all of the boards started going massively downhill around 2010/2011.....I think it is part of a broader societal decline that is deeply tied to the betrayals The Debacle In Iraq and The Great Recession.

A lot of people think that the apps are a problem......I read X but have never posted, I mostly looked at Facebook only but stopped that about five years ago....I am not sure.

I do know that I currently hear a lot of people slamming X but I spend a good deal of time on it, because I find it very valuable.

I understand - but the vast, overwhelming majority HAS put most of their posts on social media such as X and Facebook. Boards like this dominated at a time before the behemoth platforms existed.

I prefer this, and even Debate Politics, which is 10 times this size, to X because you get to know people here. You never will on X. But those like you and me are the minority view.

I remember Bret Weinstein having a long convo with a guy who says that the social media app algorithms are scrambling brains and degrading the moral fiber of the people, and that it might be intentional. It might be so,

I spend most of my days on X, YouTube and here.....so far it works for me.......but I am very deliberate in how I use all three......in the use of my time and the construction of my grapevine.

I heard Bret say recently that he knows (mostly used to know) several very smart people who years ago completely gave up social media.

He says that they have no idea what is going on, they are deceived by the information flow of this very corrupt society.....they dont have people like me and Bret to help them notice the lies. .....the cons.
