but that isn't the same as saying they were "designed". You can write an equation for basically anything that lawfully happens in the universe, regardless of how messy and complicated it is.

That's not an explanation for why inert and inanimate matter and would behave and interact according to very precise mathematical principles. You can't just sweep that under the rug.

Leaving aside the question of why matter and energy even exists in the first place, why wouldn't matter and energy just behave chaotically and unpredictably? You would never expect random chance and irrational and inanimate causes to imbue precise organization and rational mathematical principles on a system.
