Inauguration

He's absolutely right.

Democrats whined about republicans and money like screaming banshies for the last eight years .. now that it's their turn and their politician is awash in corporate dollars you look the other way. That is called hypocrisy.

No. He's not absolutely right. He said I whined about it; me. I did not.

Wanna continue to make an idiot out of yourself?

Be my guest.

so in dunceler's world, pointing out facts is bitching....i guess you have say something, in your case ad hominem, to make your dems look better....ignore the hypocrisy and cry about yurt's alleged bitching...yes, hopefully this will confuse people and distract them from the dems hypocrisy

You deny the double-standard that you have on this? The words you wrote on this thread?

Are you saying that you weren't suggesting that Obama should NOT spend the money?

Dig out of this one, Yurtle. Or, go back and edit some posts.

I was going to go to DC this weekend if my friend could score me a ticket to an awesome event. But I got no such luck, so I'll be spending the say around the corner at a moveon.org meet up at someone's house.

The price tag for President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration gala is expected to break records, with some estimates reaching as high as $150 million. Despite the bleak economy, however, Democrats who called on President George W. Bush to be frugal four years ago are issuing no such demands now that an inaugural weekend of rock concerts and star-studded parties has begun.

I make perfect sense.

In addition to your lying and saying that I criticized Bush for spending on his '01 inauguration, you went on to criticize Dems for criticizing Bush's inauguration, but not criticizing Obama's, but then went on to criticize Obama's.

Can't keep up? Neither could I.

i never lied...i never said you specifically, if i did i was mistaken for i have no idea whether you complained or not...i have hunch i was speaking generally and you took it personally...why don't you link to where i said you personally criticized bush or else i expect you to apologize for calling me a liar.

Montecristo #2's and Dom Perignon 1985. Not going to work. The chimp is finally gone and and I am going to celebrate. Good riddence to one of the most incompetent bafoons to ever hold the office. I hope they have a BIG bag of pretzles for him on his flight home.

lol... right.... we know you will be out chasing ambulances as usual.

If Obama were "serious" about changing Washington, DeLay said, "He would announce to the world: 'We are in crisis, we are at war, people are losing jobs; we are not going to have this party. Instead, I'm going to get sworn in at the White House. I'm going to have a nice little chicken dinner, and we'll save the $125 million.'"

Who made a loser like Tom Delay the arbiter of what it means to be serious about "changing" Washington? Mere competence in the Oval Office will be "change."

Onceler is looking for a rockin' stimulus package, huge investment in renewable domestic energy, ending the war in Iraq, overhauling NCLB, making college tuition affordable for everyone & major headway toward universal healthcare. I'd see that as much more significant change than saving $125 million in an almost purely symbolic gesture.

Take that, Tom Delay.

why can't you admit that at a time like this it is stupid for obama to host such a lavish party...sends the wrong message, hey look at me, i'm a big shot, despite the fact that i could use this money for more important things, i am going to throw a party in MY honor, despite the state of union, i am going to throw a party in MY honor....

tom delay's point is spot on and valid

Tom Delay is not spot on; it would be an empty symbolic gesture. I thoroughly hate this kind of BS; frankly, it's the same mentality that says Bush's daughters should go to war if he makes that decision.

And who says it sends the wrong message? Will cancelling inauguration festivities because they cost too much reassure foreign investors that America is on sound financial footing?

I could actually care less either way, but I'm not going to ever call empty proslytizing from Tom Delay "spot on"...

do you think this conservative is wrong?

"Precedent suggests that inaugural festivities should be muted - if not cancelled - in wartime," Tom Delay said.

He noted the money could be used to buy 690 Humvees and pay for a $290 bonus for each soldier serving in Iraq.

Nice try, dumbo. A Dem said that, and I stand by how I feel about it: empty symbolism.

It's BS. Just like your little "gotcha" try.

Can you read? I said it's BS. Yeah, he was wrong.

And not even a twinge of embarassment that you fell flat on your face w/ that dishonest attempt? Shameless, though unsurprising.

someone told me it is "honest deception" and is in fact completely honest :)

it was an excellent way to make a point and you caught it, good for you!

Um, don't you guys realize that this is the first step in President Obama's stimulus package? Or, maybe it was a bailout of the catering/entertainment businesses in Washington? I can't exactly remember which one.
